So why are the Bears kicking off from the 30?

To practice coverage.

Offensive line settled down after a while, but hard to say if that was because of personnel differences on the Bills end.

Ghoulston and Akoye both looked pretty good, imo.

Special Teams looks like it'll be a strength again.

that sounds insane.

It makes sense though. They get less practice time now after the new CBA, and it's a short offseason already. The practice time that they do get is mostly spent on offense and defense, not ST. So use preseason games to practice. And touchbacks are no help in determining anything. I actually thought it was a pretty slick idea.

I'm not worried about Gould kicking so many touchbacks they don't get adequate practice. I'd rather they get real game-type practice.

And if people forgot, this should remind them that Taylor is, maybe, the 4th best RB on the team.

so does Okoye look as good as his 2 sacks seem to indicate?

I only caught one, but he really beat his man on it and grabbed the QB in what should have been the pocket.

Without a doubt. Barber looked great, and Bell looks impressive too, though against 2nd/3rd string.

I think so. He looks strong. Ghoulston did too though. I want to see more of both of them.

@MikePereira Mike Pereira

In Chicago, the Bears were allowed to kick off from the 30 for the first two kickoffs. Carl Johnson called the stadium and put a stop to it.

ESPNChiBears Dickerson and Wright

Bears play be their own rules. Again, they kickoff from 30 yard line. Press box official livid. JD

Haha awesome. Basically a big F U to the league

That's funny. Were the refs just oblivious? I suppose that wouldn't be much of a surprise.

For those of us who couldn't catch the game, it's on NFL Network tonight 6pm.

Apparently the Bears asked for, and got permission from the officials before the game, but the league was not so accomodating.

"We know Robbie Gould," Smith said. "We can put it on the 35 and he can kick it out each time. We're not really getting a good evaluation of what we can do coverage-wise one some of our players. That's what we were trying to do with it.''

Solution: Intentionally get a five-yard penalty and have the kickoff moved back.

Yep. I think that's probably why the officials allowed it.

I want Angelo's head on a pike (figuratively) after seeing the OLine last night. He's going to get Cutler killed.

Nah. Watching Jay run around is fun!

We need to adjust our mental perspective on this thing, that's all.

lol, the VP of officiating called Soldier Field during the game last night to tell the Bears to stop kicking off from the 30 yard line.

First Impressions - Bills @ Bears

I know it’s far too early to say this but I do have concerns that Chicago over-performed last year and could be in line for a hard season. I was disappointed that (Carimi aside) they didn’t address the o-line and I’m not sure one rookie can turn around the worst group we’ve seen in three years of grading.

Really frustrating that Angelo has placed all his trust in Mike Tice turning marginal talents into a passable line, especially with all the money we can spend.

It's true.

When you think about this it is truly the sign of a poorly run team. We wait literally a generation (two?) to acquire a QB with the talent, durability and know-how to lead the franchise for the longterm, and what do we surround him with: The worst O-Line we've had since the 70's and 2nd rate skill players.

What else can be said. It shows that Angelo is 100% incompetent.

Bears DE Wootton out 4 weeks with meniscus damage in knee

That's somewhat good news. I was worried he'd be out for a lot longer and I'm hoping for big things this year from him.
