If true, I would assume Ha goes to AA with Szczur in Daytona now. Creda or Watkins to replace Flaherty. I'm glad to see Flaherty moved up, but BJax isn't exactly tearing up AA since his injury.

I know Flaherty doesn't exactly have age on his side, but it's kinda remarkable how little hype he's gotten for his season, especially considering his career, position, and the lack of prospect excitement elsewhere. The age is slightly less of a concern since he's never really repeated a level either. I'd love for he and LeMahieu to be the new DeWitt/Baker. Speaking of LeMahieu, I wonder which one of them plays 3B at Iowa now?

I would think it would be Crawford to AA since Ha is struggling lately.

I'd rather leave Ha at Daytona and move up Crawford.

Really glad to see Flaherty move up.

Unrelated to this specific chain of position player promotions, Luis Liria was called up to Peoria. I can't imagine this bodes well for Graham Hicks' injury prognosis.

Also, Yaniel Cabezas (yikes) and Travis Garcia were demoted from Boise to Mesa.

It seems to me that Szczur and Flaherty were the only ones ready for this string of promotions right now.

The thing about Brett is that its more of a done all he can do and learned all he was going to learn in Tennessee, and its time to move him up. As I recall, Josh Vitters initial promotion to Tennessee was under similar circumstances, where he wasnt doing so hot, but they pushed him through anyway.

I'm not sure Jackson and Ha are exactly rushed with these promotions though. There were certainly things they could both work on at the level they were at, but they won't be woefully overmatched at the next level either. And it does help the CF dilemma that was caused by Szczur moving up, and he absolutely needed to move up. I'm hoping Flaherty will get to come up to the big leagues in September, and don't really care which level of AA and AAA he plays before that.

Yeah, not really a matter of somebody being rushed, just sort of odd timing that had more to do with getting out of other people's way.

Well that seems like an odd time to promote Jackson.

Just like prior promotions for Vitters.

Sort of, but Jackson is like 1 for his last 20. He has about 130 games in AA now and all in his AA numbers are very solid, especially for a CF.

I think he still had work to do before earning a promotion. That said, he'll probably amass some great stats playing in the PCL.

This really does make AAA much more followable, possibly bumped to the top of my minor league priority list. I like the recent moves, because before DJ and Marwin were sent there, depending on how you view Castillo, Colvin, Jackson, Cabrera, Gaub, Smith, and Mota, there really wasnt anyone on that team who Id view as a prospect, more so a spare parts shop. Now we have most of the guys who made the Smokies so exciting earlier in the year, and the only thing really exciting over there now is the pitching, and I guess Ha and to some extent Perez and Ridling. Daytona gets a lot more interesting with Szczur and Watkins recent resurgence, but not to much for me in Peoria aside from a few pitchers(Kirk, Peralta, Del Valle) unless some of the Hawks get the bump.

Tennessee also has Vitters.

Peoria's rotation also just added Liria who might be more interesting than Del Valle, Kirk or Peralta.

Damn, I wish they would've promoted Liria last week so I could see him pitch this past weekend.

Oh well, I'll see Peoria again in mid August, hopefully so new names on the roster by that time.

I forgot about Vitters and Liria. There are some interesting guys all around.

I would've promoted Crawford to AA. He's a marginal prospect but he's playing real well this year and is old for the FSL. But maybe they wanted to promote a CF?

Agree on Crawford. He is a true CF right? Having a better all around year than Ha. Maybe Crawford walks too much.

Kevin Goldstein was fielding questions on Twtter about these moves the other night and he does not have a high opinion of Flaherty. Thinks his ceiling is a backup. I know Flaherty doesn't have age on his side (though he's not that old) but he has still posted solid numbers. Has he been playing in hitters' leagues/is he not very projectable or is Goldstein just underrating him?

I'm not sure how experts view him, but I have rated him highly in the past. He has power that you can't teach, and is now more versatile than most other prospects. I picture him as a left-handed Mark DeRosa type who will have a chance in the majors at the corner spots and 2B. I think he may have some solid years where he hits for average and power, but won't be an everyday regular in the majors for his entire career. I expect solid numbers out of him in Iowa this year, and if he's back there next year, he will have a huge first half. I think (in the extremely unlikely event) if the Cubs go with a youth movement next year, he will be on the team and play all over the field.

I've heard this comp before and would be happy if that's the case. If ARAM is back at third next year he will invariable need some days off or have some minor injuries that keep him out for days at a time. If Flaherty can be a lefty DeRo then we won't miss Jeff Baker when he's traded.
