I know he is another year older but has seemed to level off at a 25 point clip. Would the Hawks/fans be interested in bringing back John Madden. I think a guy who is solid in face offs and could play on the PK would be a good pick up for the Hawks, especially if he could be had at 1.5. I also think he would solidify any 3/4 line that he was playing on and really help young players adjust to those type of roles.

I don't know what kind of year he had this season, but if the price was right, absolutely.

Very little, if any, interest in John Madden back unless it's for well under $1.0m. He didn't really do anything with the Blackhawks last time, and he's 38. I don't really think 3/4 line center needs to be the big quest. They need some defensive help and they could use a forward that can be physical and skate at the same time.

Did Niemi want more than that, do the Hawks feel Crawford is better, or has the situation simply changed from last year to this one?

I get it that we're not as strapped for cap room this year, btw. I'm simply not sure Crawford is worth the commitment considering the philosophy of the team to underemphasize the goalie and overemphasize the defense.

Well, Niemi is getting almost 4m per year from San Jose.

2.6 is a reasonable deal. It's slightly more than Jimmy Howard is making, but it won't prevent us from making any deal we want to.

thx - I didn't remember what Niemi was either asking for from the Hawks or ended up getting last season.

I'm all for an warm weather exodus back to Canada. I do wonder if the NHL would really move Detroit and leave the Blackhawks as the only Original Six member in the West.

I guess they were promised this a while back. Not sure all the details. I do remember with the last expansion the Wings and the Blue Jackets were supposed to end up in the Eastern Conference after some time, but do not remember how it was going to happen.

I dont want to sound like a snob Wings fan, but if they do move to the Eastern Conference the Western Conference is going to get almost no coverage on Versus except for some Hawks games.

Nashville to the Southeast would make the most sense based on location.

I think what would make the most sense is a complete realignment where travel time is evened out more. Maybe a Northern and Southern Conference. The Wings and Blue Jackets being in the Eastern Time Zone really sucks comes playoff time.

My guess is that you are probably right, with Minnesota to the Central and Winnipeg to the Northwest

edit-It basically sucks for the entire Western Conference.

apparently, the thrashers are moving to winnipeg.

A lot of talk on a couple of Wings sites saying that this move will also move Detroit to the Eastern Conference

Awful. Probably a good thing for the Hawks to get a consistent contender out of the conference, but playing the Wings once or twice a year would suck.

Would it? I like the sound of winning division title after division title.

Nashville or Columbus will be the one to move. Much as Detroit would push for it, the league is not going to get rid of the divisional rivalries between the Wings and the Hawks and Blues.

But it's not final yet. Sounds like word may come down tomorrow. This is great. Get the teams out of Miami and Phoenix and up to Hamilton and Hartford and the league would be a lot more interesting.

well, I guess hamilton being 600k was bigger then I thought

Hamilton is where Balsillie was going to move the Predators. They have an arena there that is bigger than the new one in Winnipeg, but it needed some money put into it. Winnipeg's arena only holds 15K or so. I really hope they make it work up there, if it happens.

There has never been anything interesting involving the state of Connecticut, let alone Hartford.
