2012 PG Dominic Artis committed to UCLA. He's been blowing up this summer and is the first high school PG recruit to commit to UCLA since Jerime Anderson/Jrue Holiday in the 2008 class.

So the 25 year old ex-felon, stud JUCO player that Iowa signed is transferring. Heavy speculation is that he's being booted for violating the zero tolerance policy (weed?) but this is a face-saving move. The press release says he's looking for somewhere closer to home.

He was nearly leading the summer league in rebounding this year and would have been the starting SF.

Twitter rumors saying that he is transfering to Wichita St (yay), if true he will most likely backup this year but step in to a starting role for his senior year. Sounds like a good deal if he can stay out of trouble.

And Calipari because everyone already knows why.

Apparently Derek Willis (2013) is reconsidering Purdue. He posted on Facebook that he was backing out, but his dad is saying that's not accurate (yet). He's ranked #19 nationally by ESPN for 2013. Painter does not recruit players that back out so if he's gone he's gone for good. This really sucks for Purdue - apparently the kid (from Kentucky) wants to talk to Pitino and Calipari.

Cal just moving right in on a committed player. He's so good for college basketball.

whatever, until they've signed or explicitly asked not to be contacted by other teams they're still fair game. kids waver on early commitments all the time. calipari is a giant douche but this really isn't out-of-bounds.

A lot of Purdue fans were pessimistic about Willis right from the get go, expecting this very thing to happen. I guess I'm not too upset because I never really felt like he was going to make it to campus either. His dad was interviewed this afternoon and said he feels like Purdue's coaching staff puts the kids first and Cal and Pitino put themselves first (and that he doesn't trust them). Kind of sounds like his dad was committed to Purdue, not Derek... we'll see what goes down this weekend.

edit here is the quote:

"We have such a comfort zone with Coach Painter and Coach Owens," Del Willis said, "and it's like I told them, 'I don't know if I can trust a Coach (Rick) Pitino or Coach (John) Calipari. Their agenda is more for their benefit than the kid's. They're more worried about themselves."

ND's top recruit, Eric Katenda, was blinded in his left eye thanks to an accident in a pickup game that severed his optic nerve. There's apparently no medical procedure to repair a severed optic nerve as of now. Just an awful story.

I guess Wichita St administration wouldn't admit him for whatever reason, so he's back on the market.

In football that's always been the case. It hasn't in basketball. Which is too bad, basketball doesn't need to become the recruiting cesspool that football is.

Top 100 DePaul freshman Shane Larkin, son of Barry Larkin, has left the team due to a "medical issue" that requires him to be closer to his family in Florida. Not specified if it is his issue or a family medical issue. It's probably legitimate because they released him instead of making him transfer and sit out a year.

The lesson, as always, being a DePaul fan SUCKS.

The basketball recruiting cesspool is far worse than football.

Please take Michael Orris before we get stuck with him.

Agreed. At least in football, most of the time you're dealing with the family and high school coaches.

DaJuan Marrerro is claiming an Illinois offer, is that accurate?

Creighton can have him. I'd rather roll the scholarship to 2013 and pray we can land some more good recruits.

Awful indeed. But no reason to give up. Just ask Terry Turner:

Huge committment for new Aggie coach Billy Kennedy. Bryan guard J-Mychal Reese has chosen to play ball next year at Texas A&M. He chose us over Kansas & Memphis. He is from neighboring Bryan, TX and his brother is already at A&M.
