Given the fact that Starlin has 4 HR already, some of you may have wondered who has the most homers this Spring.

The answer? Jake Fox with 7 for Baltimore.

Against Silva, more batters have homered (4) this spring than have struck out (3). And 1 of those Ks was a pitcher.

The best thing you can say about Silva is that he throws a lot of strikes. Similar to the nice things you can say about batting machines.

I can't believe they left him in. That's hilarious. 8 R, 5 ER.

Beautiful. Bye, Carlos.

Fun stat: 11 hits in 26 pitches.

Those 11 H and 1 BB bring Silva's ST WHIP to 2.73, which would be a pretty nice ERA.

Edit: W. Castillo with another hit.

Regarding Koyie vs. Castillo, its very annoying that Hill will probably get the job, but its hardly a catastrophe.

I RECANT!

Q: How does a team collect 22 hits, 13 runs and lose?

A: By allowing Carlos Silva to pitch.

For anyone who didn't see it, Silva's complete line today was:

3 IP, 11 H, 8 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO

That brings his spring ERA to 15.88

So what do the Cubs do now? I imagine any trade possibility is off the table and there is no way he can make the big league team. It is time for either an outright release or a fake injury.

I'd normally say mop-up reliever would be another possibility, but I think that role is reserved for Samardzija.

If Silva somehow makes the rotation that would prove that there was never really any competition in the first place.

If Castillo hits .733 for the spring and loses out on the job...THAT means there was never really a competition in the first place.

That's what I am guessing we will see.

A Carlos Silva/Koyie Hill battery appeared 5 times last season. Over/under?

No question under....I don't think Hill has much of a chance to last on this team for the whole season. Silva's contract makes his status a tad more questionable for me. I don't think he will play much, but not sure he will be outright released either.

What are the chances Barney wins the designation of primary 2B?

EDIT: Starlin Castro - Power hitter.

If that were the case, the better defender at shortstop would be playing at second base.

At 23, almost 24, Castillo might be more valuable playing everyday in Iowa. If he can rake like he has been during ST, he could build some solid trade value, and we could then keep Max Ramirez around as the backup C.

I'd rather have Castillo around if he can hit reasonably well. The Cubs can spell Soto more often to save his body without as much of a dropoff offensively if Castillo indeed has the chops to play in the majors.
