we sign him and bring him up to pitch one inning at wrigley when the rosters expand. he strikes out the final batter (looking) on a dirty curve and leaves to one of the loudest standing ovations in wrigley history.

And he hugs his son in the dugout and walks away from baseball?

Sounds good to me. Make it the 9th inning of the last home game at Wrigley this year, regardless of the score.

Could Prior be any worse than half of the garbage we've trotted out to the mound this year?

He's obviously not a starter anymore, but I couldn't see him having worse results than Camp/Dolis/Corpas/Etc. out of the bullpen this year.

Castillo fouls one out of play. A graphic on the screen says Prior's average of 113.4 pitches per start in the regular season topped MLB and that he's averaging 124.5 in the postseason.

Prior mutters, "Led the Majors."

oh god :(

They talked, as they had a few times a year since 2006. They made their points. Prior had never blamed Baker for his injuries the way so many Cubs fans had, but he did ask his former manager about the strategy in Game 2 of the 2003 NLCS, leaving him in for so long despite such a big lead. Baker had come to accept that he'd be forever pilloried by Cubs fans and the stat gurus he called "propeller-heads," with all that data to back up their claims, but who knew at the time? Throwing a baseball is an unnatural motion. Even the healthiest pitcher can get hurt. He told Prior he had learned from it. Prior said he understood.

I cant remember...was that meeting with Prior before or after he killed Aaron Harrang?

I don't understand why we haven't signed him yet. I don't give a damn, give him 5 million a year just for kicks, he needs to be a Cub again. :(

As much as I would like to have him pitch here, I also do get nervous whenever The Cubs do things that smell more of marketing than actually trying to win. If he can pitch and help, I am in. simple as that

Based on his numbers in the minors last year it seems his main issue right now is finding a way to control his pitches... otherwise he's still got the uncanny ability to miss bats.

Well controlling his pitches and the whole Mr. Glass thing that's plagued him his whole career. I would welcome him back with open arms, regardless if it were a marketing ploy or not.

1. This isn't the Tribune Cubs anymore.

2. Most Cubs fans probably hate him because they're [expletive] morons.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I just assumed everyone loved him.
