Amidst all this cheerful news about the 2011 Chicago Bears, I just saw that Directv charged me the auto-renewal for Sunday Ticket.

Seriously thinking about cancelling.

You and me both.

But then you'll miss all of the New England games.

It's good to have Adams back. I think they are pretty much set on the D-line. Need more depth at LB and I think the defense will be solid once again.

Peppers, Idonije, Paea, Adams, Wotton, Toenia, Melton... who else am I forgetting? Feels like we could use another piece. We'll probably dress 7, so you'd want at least 3-4 more for camp competition, practice squad fodder and the inactive list.

There are some UDFA's too.

And Marcus Harrison is probably still on the roster. Combing the roster, it looks like they also have Tank Tyler.

Per the Trib, the Bears are looking to bring in recently cut DE Vernon Ghoulston from the NYJ, former first round pick.

Yuck, he's awful, and I'm not just saying that because he's from Ohio State. He's a much bigger disappointment than Gaines Adams was when we brought him aboard.

The common thing with him, Hurd and Williams is that the Bears are going the cheap route. I would be fine with that, if they could sign ONE immediate impact player.

This says it all:

Third-year defensive lineman Vernon Gholston had a clause in his contract that would have paid him $9 million if he had a sack, a forced fumble OR a fumble recovery. Any one of those. In three years. Nine million bucks. And guess what happened.

In 45 NFL games, he did none of those things. Zero. They even moved him from linebacker to defensive end and tried to devise schemes specifically to help him out. Nothing.

He did get a sack in a 2009 preseason game, which prompted coach Rex Ryan to say, ”It was the first of many.” Unfortunately, the best he could do was 16 total tackles in three seasons.

Wow. That's just... bad. If someone offered me $9M to sack a QB, well, I'd sure try really, really, really, hard to get it.

His game hasn't been all that good since 2007 mainly because he seems to care more about celebration after catches rather than the catch itself. I wonder what the ratio is for time spent in practice actually catching balls and celebrating the catch of balls.

I doubt that's "mainly" the reason.

It's mainly that he's not that great. His star has faded (wasn't all that bright to begin with).

Still, I believe he can do more than Devin Aromashodu.

I bet Gholston won't even make the team.

I figured that guy was gonna be the next LT. It's amazing what a bust he's been...it's not like he wasn't put into a situation with other good defensive players that could let him do work and he just looks like he should be a freak.

WR Roy Williams will not line up immediately as a starter in practice even though he does have knowledge of coordinator Mike Martz's offense. "We never do that or promise guys any position," coach Lovie Smith said. "Roy Williams has No. 1 receiver skill. Devin Hester does also."
