Apparently Jim Cornelison will not be doing the anthem on Sunday. It will be Lee Dewyze...last year's American Idol winner. Because Fox gets to pick the anthem singer.

I blame you for watching that abortion of a television program.

I'm quitting it this year, but yeah...

It's worth it just for Kaplan's on-air tantrum over it on CTL last night, and how the rest of the panel responded to him like he was a brat throwing a hissyfit.

This is from Football Outsiders comments on the Jets-Pats game...but it could apply to the Bears-Packers this week, so I thought it was worth possible discussion...

Rob Weintraub: Of all people to make an interesting point, John Madden did on Friday on Chris "Mad Dog" Russo's Sirius show. He said that in playoff games matching division opponents (i.e. the third time they've played), coaches become inherently conservative. When they design gameplans for teams they don't see often, they get aggressive, and put in things that are more experimental. But against teams they see twice a year, the coaches act negatively, and spend most of their time taking things out that have been proven not to work against that opponent. The result is that the defenses have a major edge--they've seen pretty much everything the offenses have to offer, and the offenses have just spent the week stripping away any possible surprises.

Now, that may not fully explain the two AFC games we just saw, but it does make sense. The Pats seemed shocked that the Jets had an answer for the patterns that were wide open last time, and had nothing in reserve. The Jets didn't do much different--Sanchez just played better. Lord knows the Steelers and Ravens had little to unveil on offense, save for a third and 18 helmet-catch bomb.

It was certainly more enlightening than anything Madden said on TV the last few years.

What was the point of his tantrum?

If I were tantrumming (?) about it, I would start with the fact that it fires up the crowd and gets everyone going, as opposed to some douche singing that most football fans have never heard of.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that saw that. That was embarrassing, even for Kaplan's standards.

I barely ever watch CTL anymore...it's awful. Most of the time it's filled with a who's-who of terrible Chicago writers, like Phil Rogers and Paul Sullivan. There's only a few people I ever have any interest in hearing from on that show. Lawrence Holmes, and Teddy Greenstein as a couple of examples.

"It's GARBAGE!!!" x 30. Great way to argue your point, Kaplan. No matter what anyone said he'D just look at them with that moronic, open-mouthed, thousand yard stare and then whine, "I don't care; it's GARBAGE!!"

Jeffrey Chadiha from ESPN:

It's hard to pick against the Bears. When you come into the postseason with a first-round bye and two games at home, your chances of advancing in the playoffs skyrocket. But each of the past five years the NFL postseason has given us one surprise team that has roared through the playoffs with little initial fanfare. Right now the Packers look very much like that team.

Yeah...really guys...the Packers have had such little fanfare all season really....

What a weird comment. I think of the non-Seattle NFC teams, Chicago was the only one with little fanfare. Atlanta was the 1 seed favorite. GB and Philly were feisty wild card weekend teams that were really dangerous, and the Saints were the defending champs.

All anyone has been talking about in the NFC is Rodgers and how great he is.

That's just a dumb comment. Is he drunk?

this could just as easily been said about the Jets and made as much sense

Come on [expletive], let's get some trash talk going.

I hope Clay Matthews gets arrested for soliciting a prostitute the night before the game.

He doesn't need prostitutes.

And should I force feed Jay Cutler some sugar? I'm kind of tempted.

Yeah right, like there's any of that leftover in your apartment

There wouldn't be, because I've lived in my own house for the last 5 years.

Gotta love the fat jokes from you guys. Nobody's smart enough to think of anything else? Get some new material.

(anxiously waits for the next SCATHING fat joke, because, indeed, nobody here IS smart enough to think of anything else)

if you've eaten all your sugar, you could always pick up some at wal-mart tomorrow when you go in for work

Wrong again. Haven't worked at Walmart in 7 months.

You really suck at this game. And at life, for that matter.

lol, so ESPN Sportsnation has a poll for who will win the game. The choices are Chicago comfortably, Chicago close, GB comfortably, GB close.

GB close has 42%, followed by GB comfortably 32%, followed by Bears close 21% and Bears comfortably 5%

But that's not the funny thing. 47 states had Packers close the majority pick. As expected, Illinois was the only state that had Bears in a close one. But then there were 2 states that picked Packers comfortably, Wisconson and......Washington. Those crazy bitter Seahawks fans want the Packers to thrash us.

For once, I am glad the Thunder left for OKC.

Also sticking with the stereotypes of the Bears:

-70% have McCarthy as the better coach

-64% think that Jay Cutler's inconsistency is a bigger question mark than GBs running game.

-49% think that Chicago having HFA helps "a little" (vs. 30% that think its no advantage)
