My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw some post on twitter that said FOX 2 News in St. Louis is reporting that the Cubs are the third team that offered a 10-year deal. I guess it's pretty serious.

@miklasz Fox 2 news reported that Cubs put in a legit 10 year deal as if this was the 3rd team in question. Thoughts?

A buddy of mine actually bumped (literally) into Pujols today. He never said if Pujols was singing "Go Cubs Go" but isn't that song on the chopping block anyways, so who knows where he's headed.

Also, I get nervous about Prince. Like the chart Rob posted, heavy guys tend to decrease rapidly after 32. Prince's own dad fell apart after 32.

If that's true and I think it's a pretty big "if", then come on Fish and give us a Lebron moment we can all enjoy at least.

I bet he stays in St. Louis. He got them to pony up.

I don't know. Would you want to stay in St. Louis if you could help it? Even if someone paid you a crapload of money?

Considering he has a restaurant there/bunch of money invested there/has talked about how he loves St. Louis, I would think pulling a fast one on the Cardinals probably would not go over very well for his legacy there.

Probably be as big of a blow to St. Louis as Lebron was to Cleveland.

I was being facetious. My point is that St. Louis sucks.

How is this not even close? Both are ridiculously huge superstars in their respected towns that waited until free agency to bolt like a madman South to teams that are loading up on talent.

Add on the fact that how Pujols has talked about:

- How he and his family loves St. Louis/wants to play his whole career there.

- How he wants to be the next Stan Musial

- How money doesn't matter, winning's all that matters.

I'd put him pretty close to Lebron in retrospect about jabbing a city in it's heart.

For starters Albert's actually brought not one, but two championships to his city. Lebron was a local guy, Albert's from another country entirely.

well for starters, pujols won't be universally hated in st louis if he leaves.

it's not even a comparable situation at all. lebron was the hometown (kinda) kid who was supposed to be a savior to a sports city that never wins in any sport and is always miserable. then he not only left them before bringing them a title, but he completely punked them out in the process. not to mention that him leaving was essentially turning them from an elite team into an awful team. pujols isn't going to turn the cardinals into the pirates by leaving.

what pujols means to st louis will never touch what lebron meant to cleveland when he was there.

nickcafardo: Cubs definitely not in on pujols

He probably thinks we should sign him and give him to the Red Sox for free as Theo compensation. Seriously, how does a Red Sox beat reporter get this info? My guess is there isn't a single reporter anywhere who truly has a clue as to what's going on tonight.

A Red Sox reporter would presumably have a good relationship with Epstein. Though sully's true user name is a more likely source for all of these rumors.

Our GM specifically said tonight that we were in on Fielder and Pujols.

Maybe if he sets up a TV special to announce his decision.

Fans here aren't bitter like Cleveland fans because they've won a lot and there is such (over the top, disgusting) pride in the franchise.

If Albert signs with Florida, his first game back here he will be cheered loudly.

Posted

Not to mention that Cleveland's economy was/is in the crapper rivaled by only Detroit so losing LeBron was like an extra kick in the nuts to their already miserable existence.

Yeah LeBron leaving and Albert leaving is absolutely not similar at all other than it being superstars leaving their current teams for Miami in FA. Even without the Decision it was so much worse.

I think there is also a decent percentage of Cardinal fans who understand the possible downside to a large long term contract. I know many Card fans who want to pass on Albert at if it is higher than what they offered in the Spring.
Posted
I feel like a lot of Cardinals fans are now jumping on that bandwagon as a coping mechanism. Long term it's probably better for a upper midmarket team like STL, but it's still gonna be devistating in the short term.
Posted
The Cards had Pujols on a well below market contract. If they lose him, the only thing they can do is get pissed at their owner for losing him. Because it certainly looks like he's giving them every opportunity to keep him.
Posted

Pujols also helped bring 2 titles to STL. Lebron bolted right when the Cavs were finally making some deep playoff runs, without ever having gotten a title.

Also, the NBA is much, much more reliant on one or two superstars.
