Not too sure albert would want to go to the cubs after an interview he recently did in puerto rico. He mentioned that his least fav stadium was wrigley. then again, a ton of money changes things.

Are the home and away clubhouses the same? I thought I remembered that the Cubs clubhouse is fine and up to date, while they just left the away clubhouse crappy and with things like bad hot water systems and stuff. I might be completely off, but I thought I remembered reading that awhile ago.

Nope, the home clubhouse is a piece of [expletive], too

i'd have to hear the exact interview. tho he did say marmol was his least fav pitcher to face. even though i am not a cubs fan, i hope the cubs get competetive soon, and i think fielder would be perfect for what theo is probably envisioning.

Yeah, the home clubhouse is technical better than the away dungeon, but compared to basically every other home clubhouse it's a disgrace.

Which will make playing a year at The Cell while Wrigley is gutted and rebuilt a bit more palatable.

If that happens, dollars to doughnuts the Cubs outdraw the Sox in their own park.

Jonah Keri thinks we should pass on Pujols and Fielder.

3) Avoid signing Albert Pujols or Prince Fielder. Sizemore doesn't figure to cost much, and Garza's still two years away from free agency so it's a different scenario. On the other hand, Pujols' potential red flags range from concerns about his age to his asking price, and Fielder's build and limited skill set raise concerns about other players of similar pedigree. More than anything, the timing isn't right. The Cubs probably aren't one player away from winning a pennant, even if that one player could be worth seven-plus wins like Pujols was last year (Fielder bashed 38 homers and knocked in 120 runs in 2011, but was worth just 5.5 wins above replacement due to the high offensive standards of other first basemen, his lousy defense and lousier baserunning). Other premium free agents will come along when the Cubs are better positioned to make a strong run at a title. Best to steer clear of $200 million investments until that time arrives.

How is concerns about his asking price a red flag?

Oh shut up you moron. Why do so many people insist that you can only win in 2012 or it's a bust?

Probably not nearly as good or as nearly a perfect fit as these two. You can't just say, "oh, there will be others." That's idiotic.

It really does Irk the soul the sheer number of people who are so short sighted on Pujols/Fielder.

Pujols has maybe two seasons left as an elite hitter. It's not like he'll be useless after he exits his prime, but ~$30 million for Pujols at 34 and beyond is a tremendously inefficient use of resources and every GM knows this.

How exactly are you defining elite? Because I see 5, maybe even 6 more seasons of 5+ win play from Albert.

The only teams who don't want Pujols are those that can't afford him or have no real way of keeping him on the field.

You're trying to cushion the loss, aren't you?

I really don't think that signing Pujols is as slam-dunk of a decision as many do here

It really depends on years and money for me. I'm a bit more bearish in the projections than a lot of people. I think the collapse rate (albeit collapse is a relative term for a guy like him) is definitely not negligible, even in the next few seasons.

Yeah, there's obviously a pain point involved here somewhere. Everyone would sign him for 1/$10M. Nobody would sign him for $20/$1,000M. The question is what contract gets it done and is that the right investment for the team.

I wouldn't sign him for anything more than 6 years @ $28 million per, meaning he wouldn't get signed based on my constraints, I'm sure someone will offer him 8 years &/or $30+ million

I'd be elated with a 6/180 deal (30 AAV), happy with an 8/240 deal, and be hesitantly ok with a 10/300 deal for Pujols.

For Fielder, I'd be elated with a 6/132 deal (22 AAV), happy with a 6/150 deal (25 AAV), and hesitantly ok with an 8 year deal of any sort (with an AAV in the general vicinity of the first two deals).

I'd be pretty uncomfortable with it, but I'd be ok with it as I expect Theo would believe that he'll be productive enough in the first 5 years to offset the second half of the deal. That would probably be my max limit, though - and I'm not convinced it'll go that high. I think my middle deal is the most likely range for Pujols.
