I started watching this game in the 3rd quarter, so must ask: how did Nebraska score 17 points? Every play I've seen is Nebraska's QB running into his half back and then getting hit with a 5 yard loss

Helu busted one for about 66 yards early in the first. Then NU got a good punt return for a FG. Later in the first they picked off Jones, deep in OU territory and got a TD to go up 17-0. Then, as Nebraska does, they went into conservative mode and OU has been able to fight back.

A 66-yard run and a 12-yard TD drive after an interception accounted for 14 of those 20 points.

A really short field after a turnover and a 66 yard run

Still holding out hope that if South Florida can win this game, the Orange Bowl will opt for a Virginia Tech-West Virginia game rather than VT-Stanford.

UConn's kicker just hit a 52-yard field goal to put them up 3 with 17 seconds left.

EDIT: UConn lost to the seventh best Big 10 team, the fifth best MAC team and two of the worst three teams in the Big East this year.

i guess uconn has to be the worst bcs bowl team of all time, right? probably either them or the pitt team that got their doors blown off by alex smith/urban meyer utah.

wasn't the FSU team that Penn State played in the Orange Bowl a few years back 8-4?

Do you guys really expect the Orange Bowl to select a team from over 3,000 miles away who does not travel well at all? Va Tech and UConn would at least create some regional appeal. I'll be stunned if the Orange doesn't go with UConn, leaving OU/Stanford in the Fiesta.

And as a Vols fan, I'd be thrilled with a matchup against Michigan.

Yeah, well that FSU team was a whole lot better than that record indicated. As I remember it, they had a ton of OL injuries early in the year that contributed to some losses.

Ernie Sims, Kamerion Wimbley, Broderick Bunkley, Antonio Cromartie all went in the 1st round that year, with Leon Washington, Willie Reid, Pat Watkins, AJ Nicholson later drafted. The next year, Lawrence Timmons goes 1st round and Buster Davis, Lorenzo Booker, Mario Henderson, and Chris Davis also picked.

UConn has Jordan Todman. So.......

2005 FSU >>>> 2010 UConn >>>>>>>>>>>>> 2004 pitt

yeah but they weren't nearly as bad as the big east qualifiers. that FSU team was #23 in the sagarin ratings; pitt was #55 and uconn (before the USF game) was #61.

no, 2004 pitt was terrible too. they're just about the same as 2010 uconn.

Thank you UConn, because even without a coach I'd much rather play Miami in the Sun Bowl than NC State in the Champs Sports. Would've been nice if Wazzu could've won to set up a big-time Holiday Bowl matchup, but then counting on WSU to win is sheer lunacy.

As long as the team plane lands in El Paso an hour before game time and takes off 10 minutes after the game ends.

So Nebraska lost the 1st big xii championship and their last :-).

Did Pelini go crazy at all?

I like their chances of being in the 1st Big Ten title game. Pelini seemed very sane

His reaction when Stoops figured out the fake punt and got a timeout called was pretty funny. He really wanted to find someone to blame and then eventually started yelling something like "@$#&ing snap the ball".

UConn's got to be the worst or close.

Seems like there will be some interesting BCS matchups this year though. I'm actually looking forward to it.

That was hilarious. He really is just a cartoon character. Sounds like an Iowa-Nebraska Insight Bowl which is best case scenario for me. The only downside is that it's a 9 p.m. game on a Tuesday night. New Year's Day or not, that game is still a lot more attractive than playing Tennessee in the Gator Bowl or South Carolina in the Outback.

By the way, did anyone else pay attention to that Dr. Pepper contest at halftime of the Big 12 game? They each got 10 throws and were supposed to have a throw-off if they tied. For some reason the counter screwed up and missed one of the makes by the dude on the right. Both guys made all 10, but they immediately just crowned the guy on the left. Guy on the right got completely hosed.

The only reason we noticed is because we were watching how they both threw like girls but were making all of them. After the chick in the SEC game was using a two-hand chest pass.

I assumed the guy on the right was going slower and made one fewer in the time allotted

It was such an awkward distance, though, that you couldn't really follow through on the throw. No idea why they had them throw from that close.

I'm pretty sure the guy who lost did miss one midway through.

We had been drinking for most of the afternoon but watched it twice and I swear he made them all before the time ran out.
