It appears there's not the demand for passes this year as there have been in year's past. I remember when passes would sell out in 20 minutes.

I noticed today they were for sale, and still a few hours later there are still passes available.

I also noticed the price has gone up $60.

Hrmm... let's raise the price to the annual convention of a mediocre baseball team during the worst recession in decades.

Brilliant!

If they sell it out it sure will be.

I went back in 2007 and promised myself that I wouldn't go back again. Too many people in a hotel that lacks adequate convention space, a bunch of middle-aged autograph hawks, and a fight nearly broke out when one fan accused another of cutting in line to get Alan Trammell's autograph.

No thank you. I'd rather spend my money to go down to Mesa.

The weekend wasn't a complete loss though. My wife and I got to watch the Bears win the NFC Championship the next day.

This has to worry the Cubs a lot. Cubs convention was a no brainer sellout every year. Raising the price $60 is absolutely ridiculous, but that is how much they were going for in the secondary marketplace a couple of years ago. Either fans are bored of the concept of Cubs convention or everyone is really blah about the Cubs. I tend to think its more of the latter.

Edit: I just looked it up. I thought you meant the price of the tickets went up $60 more than whatever it was before. But what you meant was the price of the tickets went up to $60. That's a lot more reasonable. What were they in the past? $40-50?

Yeah, that was an error in my post. I meant to say the price had gone up to $60 which is a ten dollar increase.

But, yeah I went in 2007 and that year the tickets sold out in like 20 minutes. I had a good time, but the expense for me to go from Louisiana isn't worth it for me. I may go some other time, but right now the interest isn't there.

I think it's understandable the Convention isn't selling as well as it has in the past. The Cubs just aren't worth getting excited about right now.

Agreed. But it's always sold out instantly from what I've read. It's been an extremely popular ticket. 2 years ago it would be unheard of that the convention wouldn't sell out within the first hour of tickets going on sale.

I had a fantastic time last year. I have no interest in autographs, so the freaks didn't bother me.

This. I haven't gone in 2 years, but went the 3 years prior and had a blast. Getting drunk talking baseball always rules. Autograph hounds are weird. Why waste 4 hours waiting for a stupid signature.

I guess I'll bump this, so it can be the official thread for this weekend. Evidently, Hendry and Kenney got the ceremonial "Rothschild" boo at the start tonight......

Dis this have anything to do with the trib selling to ticket brokers they owned? Has Ricketts stopped this practice?
