This is so delicious. If Miss St. isn't brought down along with Auburn in all of this, then Auburn is certainly going to unload the kitchen sink on Miss St. with any dirt they might have on them.

Dan Mullen's house is about to be up for sale. He's about to run as fast as he can away from Starkville.

this is just [expletive] disgraceful. i realize every sec school does it, but auburn has to be the first to go away over this.

then, kentucky.

i'd be embarrassed and very unhappy about it if AU did anything wrong. I understand the SEC hatred is thick on this board...but let's see how this unfolds.

auburn has a history of penalties in the past. this could be interesting.

I don't see much of a chance that they'd axe a very prominent program. Alabama has probably done more in its time and it's still around.

What it is with Alabama schools and cheating. I hope they didn't do it, but history isn't on their side.

Auburn isn't nearly as bulletproof as Bama is. There would have to be photographic evidence of Bama supplying recruits with hookers, cash, and cocaine for them to get more than a slap on the wrist.

what makes bama more bulletproof than usc was 5 years ago? it might take a decade, but if Y! finds clear evidence and hammers on it over and over and over, eventually the ncaa will do something - after Saban has been given plenty of time to find himself a better gig.

Maybe they're just more obvious about it?

....yeah, they probably wouldn't know how to cover their tracks because people who live in alabama are dumb. ;)

the NCAA hasn't made any allegations against Auburn. This Kenny Rogers guy has a checkered past, is a Mississippi State alumni, and the story is centered around him contacting a fellow Mississippi State alum. If Auburn were going to pay Cam to sign a LOI, would they choose to do business with a guy who is already being investigated by the NFLPA? Auburn didn't know in 2009 that Cam Newton would be this good. They didn't know in spring practice, and they really didn't know until after the third or so game of this season what kind of player Cam would become. Would they risk their program for a guy who had so many question marks?

That's the word going around these parts. :D

There are definitely reasons to think this has all been made up by put off Mississippi State alumni. I'm not in any way convinced of the truth of the claims.

However, there were plenty of reasons to think Cam was going to be really, really good. He was very highly touted coming out of high school, has the huge frame and arm to be really good and his athleticism has never been in question. Being this unbelievable good is a surprise, but Auburn had to know it was getting a quarterback who could be really good when Cam came in.

Again, though, that doesn't mean they paid him $200K to come to Auburn

Might as well do it if you can. I wonder who the next school will be to do this?

Won't be many, if any. This isn't the economy to launch a new national channel as the Pac-10 is seeing right now, but all of the schools that could possibly pull this off will be prevented due to conference obligations and the conferences' desire to launch channels. Texas is in a unique situation because of the state of the Big 12.

If Notre Dame wasn't in such a hole, they could.

Former Mississippi State quarterback John Bond told ESPN.com a teammate of Bond's at Mississippi State in the early 1980s contacted him soon after Newton's official visit to Mississippi State during the Ole Miss game in December, and said he was representing Newton.

Read this sentence. Then read it again. Then, bang your head against a wall.

Rule #1 - Don't believe what Chip Brown has to say.

Rule #2 - When in doubt, refer to rule #1.

Well, the size of the deal is likely bogus, but the actual agreement seems pretty plausible or even likely.

Do you think Worley is that much better than Bray, or are you talking more about QB depth? I've like what I've seen from Bray so far, though he is pretty considerably raw. I've heard Worley has good tools, but Bray does too.

Still think it's more for depth, but Worley moved into 3rd place nationally for completions in a high school career. He's behind only Ben Mauk and JR House.

Friday's developments:

Kenny Rogers denies ever speaking with Auburn about Cam Newton. He says his only contact with Cecil Newton was regarding the culture Cam could expect in the small town of Starkville where the Mississippi State campus is located.

Kenny Rogers denies speaking with John Bond since they played football together almost 20 years ago.

Kenny Rogers denies ever receiving money from any school for any player's LOI.

Auburn athletic director, Jay Jacobs, says the university would not have allowed Cam to play any game this season if there were any questions about his eligibility. Jacobs also indicated that Auburn audited phone records of university representatives as part of their due diligence.

It ought to be an interesting QB battle next year, though I kinda hope they just give the job to Bray and redshirt Worley. That'd give Worley two years to start after Bray graduates.
