Thibs will probably be dead within a year or two, so let's just ride it out.

I hope he isn't too much like Scott Skiles. Every teams Skiles has coaches grew tired of him within a few years.

I don't remember any Bulls players ever reacting to or about Skiles like you're hearing the current ones talk about Thibs. They seem to be totally onboard with his approach to the game.

From what I remember, they were early on with Skiles too. But that sort of coaching wears on you. Boers and Bernstein made the point that Phil Jackson learned not to coach every possession. What he's doing is fine this year, but I am worried long term. And I say worried because obviously Tom is a great coach and I want to see him in Chicago long term.

Nah, you never heard anything like this with Skiles. Just the basic, perfunctory backing up the coach rhetoric. The other huge difference is how much better a coach Thibs is than Skiles. People got fed up with Skiles because he was a hardass but he wasn't that good a coach. You've also got your key core players, Noah and Rose, on board 100% with Thibs early on in their careers.

Skiles is a really really good Xs and Os guy. There really is no debate on that. I've heard major commentator after major commentator rave about that aspect of Skiles. The average fan doesn't recognize it. Yes these Bulls seem to like Thibs better. But I think a lot of that is just due to the success the 10-11 Bulls are experiencing. We'll see how the team responds down the road. Boozer is important to this team. He is just as important as Deng and Noah because he is a key secondary option and we all know the issue Boozer had with Thibs early on (but Thibs was right to take Boozer out for defense late in games).

Skiles sucks because he's shitty at managing his teams. He can be an amazing strategist all he wants; he can't manage guys for [expletive].

Boozer isn't the key person that Thibs need to have on his side. Boozer can end up being as pissy as he wants; it's not Boozer's team. He's a hired gun. Thibs has the necessary guys on his side and they want to play for him.

If the Bulls' players are the type to turn on a coach when they suck then [expletive] 'em. I don't want a babysitter who is going to coddle them and I don't want an idiot hardass like Skiles. The Bulls are lucky they have a smart hardass who is a fantastic strategist and actually knows how to manage his team.

With a big 'thank you' to PHX, the Bulls are the #1 overall seed in the '11 NBA Playoffs.

Been paying more attention to other NBA scores/playoff stuff, and the NHL playoffs, than this game... but how the flip did the LAC blow a nearly 40-pt lead!?

They were up by 30, seems like just a few minutes ago, and they only have a 4-pt lead with :05 left in the game.

When the Lakers-Kings game started to get interesting, the Grizzlies started trying to make it a game. If the Lakers lose, Dallas is the 2 seed, and the 7 seed becomes desirable. Memphis was stalling as much as possible to wait for the outcome of the LAL-SAC game. Once the Lakers took over in OT, they went back to tanking.

There's no way the Grizzlies were scoreboard watching like that.

They were totally scoreboard watching. When the lead was around 30, the Lakers-Kings game was at 8 at half time. Memphis then closed to a reasonable gap, then saw the Lakers pull away again, and fell to 15 down again. When the Kings made their crazy run to take the lead late, Mamphis made a crazy run to get within 3 with 5 to play. When the Lakers tied it and sent it to OT, the Grizzlies stalled like crazy, taking timeouts at weird times, trying to make sure the outcome of the Lakers-Kings game was set before they had their final plan.

And while teams are purposely tanking games Stern is busy lip reading what Kobe says on the bench.

This is only the fourth time in Bulls history that they finish #1 overall.

In 1991, Portland went 63-19 while the Bulls went 61-21.

In 1992, the Bulls had the best record at 67-15 (second was Portland at 57-25)

In 1993, Phoenix was 62-20, New York was 60-22, and the Bulls were 57-25.

In 1996, the Bulls were 72-10 (second was Seattle at 64-18)

In 1997, the Bulls were 69-13 (second was Utah at 64-18)

In 1998, the Bulls tied Utah at 62-20, but Utah won the tiebreaker.

Some pretty good reading on Page 14-15 about Taj Gibson/DeJuan Blair

http://www.northsidebaseball.com/forum/topic?f=44&t=54058

Always nice to read a thread from years back and not find anything too remarkably stupid. Also fun to see where our expectations were and how far they've come for D Rose and the team.

Edit - To be clear, I was referring to strictly my contributions. There was plenty of remarkably stupid going around from some other people.

this 2010 FA class is the most overrated story in a long time. My guess is most of these guys re-sign with their own teams

lol

If you're going to be wrong, might as well go big.

Sorta like Andy did:

I really wish we could go back two years and give Deng's money to Gordon.

I was never a really big Luol Deng fan (as that thread clearly indicates) but he won me over this year. I'm glad I was wrong about that.

Same here. What made Luol step of his game? Thibs?

He was really good last year, too, as well as 2006-2007 and 2007-2008.

He's really been undervalued by tons of Bulls fans due to injuries and a couple of less than stellar seasons.

at the time, people were hung up on his contract, as it seemed like it would be a hindrance to re-signing Gordon or another star. But then GarPax offloaded Hinrich's contract and cleared out Salmons, Thomas, etc.
