uhhh, yes. it's right. Rose gets to the paint and is so athletic that he avoids contact more than other guards that just straight-line it to the goal and draw contact. he's athletic enough, like top 1% of the entire league, that he gets around it.

If someone wants to compare Rose's shots to FTs to those of any other player's, I'd be interested in seeing it. And I don't mean someone like Durant who has several times the ratio

i mean, no offense, because i can understand looking at his stats and being pissed that he shoots less FTs than the other superstars in the league. But either there's been a direct mandate for three seasons to keep derrick rose and only derrick rose off the FT line or there's something else going on. what's more likely?

I don't know apparently Rose, Thibadeau, Stacey King, Wennington, Swirsky and a few different writers believe it's the former. It's not just something the fans made up.

It depends on which Pacers show up tonight. They have lots of good scoring options left (Hibbert in the post, Dunleavy and Rush on the wings, and they might ask both of their point guards to drive more tonight which is what they like to anyway). Granger is their most consistent scorer which makes him important but they don't run their offense through him on most possessions like some other teams do with their top scorers. But if some of those other scoring options don't show up then they could get killed.

One explanation I read for Rose's lack of free throws is that he has smaller hands and shorter arms than some other guards. He goes in to the paint smaller than most and avoids sticking his limbs out so he gets less obvious contact. But he absolutely does get jobber by the refs because he can muscle through or contort himself around defenders.

 

He also doesn't act like a disgusting fraud like Durant. He should learn.
