I didn't want bad things to happen to him; I just don't want him managing the Cubs. I hope he gets a managing job with another MLB team.

He is still my all time favorite player from my lifetime...which is another reason I didnt want him to get the job, I dont want to have the same feelings about Ryno as I do Dusty and Lou

Exactly. If him having his feelings hurt pushes him away from the Cubs in a coaching capacity and keeps me from hating him, then I'm totally on board.

oh man, ryno getting so pissed that he leaves the organization would be a dream scenario

The guy was one of the greatest Cubs ever, has been managing in the minors for a few years now because he really wanted to manage the Cubs, and now (at least so far) is handling not getting the job with a lot of class. I hate him so much.

Yeah, the continued "I want bad things to happen to Ryno" is a little strange. It's not like he's Mark Grace.

uhhh, can you guys show me where i said i hate him or want bad things to happen to him?

all i said was that i'd like him to go elsewhere, only because i don't want him managing the cubs.

did you guys want him managing the cubs? no? WHY DO YOU HATE HIM SO MUCH?

ryne sandberg is probably my favorite player of all time. when i was a kid, all i wanted was someone to sell his rookie card to the baseball card shop in my town so i could mow yards or something stupid like that and buy it. that never happened, but i eventually bought one on ebay and in a weird way, it's kind of one of my favorite things that i own.

but post-playing career sandberg kind of seems like a total dick so f him.

I particularly enjoyed this caption:

Ryne Sandberg did everything the organization asked of him in the minors.

You mean, like, his job?

Or, perhaps they asked him not to remove his uniform during games or smoke hash out a human skull?

I wonder what all the asked him to do???

the thread is long so someone just tell me: was there an "it's more important to be nice" quote?

nevermind, 1st page of the ryno thread

Hell, in the end this might turn out to be the best thing for Ryno and the Cubs. If, and it's a big if, he goes to another team and gets to spend 4 or 5 years learning the job, well, on the job. If he gets all the stupid out of his system and find out that his antiquated "play the game the right way" philosophy doesn't win ballgames.

I'd much rather see him become a GOOD manager and someday get the job than suffer through him learning how to be good. And if it never works out, meh, life goes on. It would have been cool to see Ernie Banks as manager back in the day but I don't think it would have worked out well.

I wanted Cashner starting as much as anybody, but to say that putting him in the pen this year ruins his career assumes that a series of bad decisions are made with Cashner that haven't been made yet. It's not quite fair.

I agree with you, but keep in mind who we're talking about. I fully expect them to make those bad decisions.

okay so you are assuming that the cubs will just give cashner an extra 80 innings next year, so you're assuming that he'll make the rotation? it's very possible that they'll just use him in the bullpen, in which case he's not much of an injury risk. and to say that a guy's career has been ruined because he was shifted from SP to RP is just dumb. there have been a lot of very valuable relief pitchers and there's a pretty good chance that cashner would be effective in that role.

Ron Washington is now managing in the WS, who's to say Quade can't do it.

People had heard of Ron Washington before he got the job, though. That means he's a better manager than Quade ever could be.

Enough to get busted for possession not enough for traffricking.

Have you seen how good Josh Hamilton is, blow definately works. Also see the 1986 Mets.

Hamilton doesn't mess with that weak stuff.

At some point he did. Then went even harder. Hamilton is amazing. Who takes a 4 year vacation and comes back and plays at that high of a level?
