I'm pretty indifferent, not sure it matters much either way; may as well let him have a go at it. I'm sure the Cubs see him as someone who is well-suited for young(er) players....

I like this move. Sure Quade wasn't the sexiest choice, but I think based on what we've seen from him, he will do a solid job.

I wasn't real big on waiting for Girardi or possibly overpaying for a manager this time around.

Sorry I know there is a 13 page thread discussing this. If mods prefer to rename that thread "Quade named manager" and merge this, that's fine. I just wanted to get a thread saying that up here so people checking the site would see the news.

Edit: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/19/cubs-remove-interim-tag-name-mike-quade-manager/

It's all good. Cubs manager is big enough news for it's own thread. I locked the other.

I didn't watch much of the last couple months. Aside from punishing Castro, did he do much to piss you guys off in his time as interim?

I'll take it. Will be interesting to see what happens with bench coach. Rothschild and Jaramillo are coming back, I wonder if Trammel has the option to return.

I am happy as well that they didn't chase Girardi or hire Sandberg. I hope Sandberg leaves the organization. His HOF induction speech always made me think that 9 David Ecksteins was his kind of team.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Ryno now. I know he was being considered as a candidate with some other clubs. If he doesn't get a job from them, will Quade consider naming him a bench coach, as the logical "next step" to being a manager (Cubs or otherwise)?

Will he feel slighted that he didn't get the job and move elsewhere? If so will he forever burn a bridge with the team he played for and has been associated with for nearly 30 years?

So we're having a news conference running at the same time as NLCS Game 3? Very curious.

I'm happy with Quade.

That's exactly the kind of mewling, obsessive [expletive] that I'm sure gives Ryno a gigantic, balding boner. If he's actually going to burn bridges over this and think that he was "owed" this job right now, then [expletive] him.

Couldn't agree more

I like it...I like it.

Two years with a team option for the third year. Just the right type contract for Quade and I think he will be a pleasant suprise. He did a fine job in a short space of time and let the players know he knew what he wanted to do.

As I recall, he made one of the veterans sit out a game because he missed a scheduled appointment. Showed he was not afraid to disicpline a player regardless of his status.

I have a feeling he could stay around longer than two years.

Time will tell.

He got good results out of the young players after the season was lost, and they actually looked like they were playing again instead of just going through the motions like they were under Lou. I'm willing to give this a chance and see how it works out.
