It's a conference logo, they all look varying degrees of lame and bland.

The real crime is the division names, and to a lesser extent the trophy names. This looks like Delany stole the draft of some message boarder who took the time to look up all the names.

yeah, but this is particularly bad. A "1" instead of an "I"? One of my friends asked why the Big 10 logo looks like in internet password

When does Zook get a trophy named after him?

When they make a trophy commemorating the most inexplicable loss of the Big Ten season.

Our losing to them gave them the confidence to beat a team full of cokeheads.

Still think Illinois losing, at home, on senior day, to a Minnesota team that just jettisoned its coach and hadn't won a Big Ten game in over a year was worse.

Maybe. However Iowa was actually a pretty good team, albeit one who was clearly struggling at the time. Illinois is an average team, but the fans probably thought the team was better than they were at the time, which is what made the loss so stunning (if it wasn't stunning enough to be the first d1a team to lose to Minnesota all season).

Of course, that's hardly the first Zook-like loss in the tenure...

2009: Beaten easily by a terrible Indiana team for IU's only win in 2 years (until the PU win this year)

2007: Home loss to average Iowa team prevents Illinois from winning Big Ten (this is the year they won at Ohio State to prevent them from being in the National Championship game).

2005: Losing 61-14 to a 2-6 MSU squad to kick off the Zook regime.

2007: I'm almost positive that game was at Iowa. And if I recall correctly the would be winning TD was called back on a penalty. That whole season was inexplicable in a good way. We also could have beat Michigan at home, but Kyle Hudson had something to say about that.

Yep, the game was at Iowa. Juice got hurt and McGee played all kinds of awful in relief. This was also when Zook late in the 4th quarter (I think) accepted a holding penalty giving Iowa 3rd and long as opposed to 4th and mid-range. Iowa of course converted.

"But to get a 90 percent non-approval rating was really surprising. It showed that we didn’t connect with our fans in a way that we wanted to. It’s humbling, to say the least, because we’re trying to build fan bases, not push them away.

"I've been around this business a long time, and I would say it’s one of the more surprising things. There’s a sensibility there that we did not connect with, did not read well."

How are they surprised by the negative response? I figured they knew it was terrible but did it anyway for some specific reason.

Why can't they be honest and name the divisions "Buckeye" and "Wolverine", since that's the only reason they didn't go geographical?

If they're gonna rename them, I say they go generically geographic, even if they don't actually distingish anything. Maybe "Midwest" and "Central". Meaningless, but not as hokey as leaders and legends. And doesn't really favor anyone school over another.

East and West would have been best. I can't think of anything else that doesn't sound dumb. I've heard suggestions for "Lakes" and "Plains" and the like, but that really isn't much better.

Teddy Greenstein is apparently pushing stars and stripes, which is probably more dumb.

The non geography thing is just so dumb. The teams pretty clearly break into a southeast and northwest breakdown.

But I'd vote for the Hookers and Blow divisions.

Or just West-East with Lake Michigan as the dividing line. The stupid Michigan-OSU obsession messed everything up.
