Yeah, I just came here to post this. Kaner being helped off the ice, into the locker room. This looks bad/serious.

Disappionting weekend for the Blackhawks. Another regulation loss in a game that wasn't close. They have 12 regulation losses already this year, tied for third most in west. And only 5 eastern teams have more. And now Kane is out for a while. The team is still above average in scoring, but below average in goals against. Special teams hasn't been a problem. They probably can't count on either goalie to carry them for any period of time, so the defense really has to start stepping it up. Otherwise this team may eventually struggle to make the playoffs.

They can't keep letting games go by without picking up at least one point. It would be nice to go on a 8 or 9 of 10 type streak to put some distance between them and the bottom tier. But they won't do that if they keep losing in regulation with such regularity.

I thought I saw where the Hawks penalty kill is pretty bad.

checking....yes, 25th.

That has been disappointing, but I guess expected as well.

It's a frustrating year so far. Expected to some degree, but still frustrating.

Just want to point out that the Hawks did outshoot them 32-18 in that Vancouver loss, despite losing 3-0. Bobby Lu was pretty good in the game. Most times you win that game. That said, they didn't win so I agree it counts again them.

Yes, I saw about 2 periods and noticed they were outshooting them. But they didn't seem to be particulary dangerous shots and the breakdowns continued. That's going to happen, but it's happening too often.

Will they solve the breakdowns issue or is it just going to continue all year?

I can understand not having the consistent defensive talent, but it seems like some of these breakdowns are just boneheaded moves.

Boneheaded-ness should be solvable.

It seems to me like Keith and Seabrook have been a major part of the problem. If that is true, then the hope for improvement should be realistic.

They've been much, much better the past couple of weeks. The team as a whole has been much better as well. On the defensive end, the Boynton/Cullimore pairing is just brutal, and that's why Q was splitting up Keith/Seabrook and Campbell/Hjallmarson. It had the rather predictable effect of worsening the entire corps, rather than merely one pairing.

Kopecky hasn't been very good. Brouwer's been MIA. And don't get me started on Bolland. He's been awful.

I think most of the problem has been too little time for the team to gel with too many games in the beginning of the season.

Three weeks for Kane

Not too bad. We're goin to be missing a lot of scoring punch for a bit.

Now I get to go around telling all the people I work with who are Blackhawks fans that Kane is out for the year to see their reactions. And then tell them that by the year I mean the year 2010. He'll be back in January.
