It looked like it was gonna be a blowout in the 1st period, now we're on track for 0 points out of 4 this weekend.

And the Hawks lose another game at home. 5-5 after the first 10 games of the season. Maybe we should consider that good considering the injuries and suspensions of the first 5 games. 38 SOG tonight for Columbus, absolutely unacceptable. The Hawks are not going to be very good if our defense isn't limiting SOG because our goaltending is not good enough.

Getting Campbell back is going to help but he's not going to make that much of a difference, is he? I can't believe how much the defense has regressed this year. And it's not just a case of Boynton, Scott, and Hendry. Keith and Hammer have looked very average and Seabrook's played like utter crap throughout the first ten games.

Campbell back means that Keith doesn't have to play 30+ minutes a game. It also means Boynton plays a lot less ( did they give him an assist on Columbus' first goal? it was a sweet pass) and Scott never plays at all except to start a fight.

Boynton is terrible. Both Cullimore and Hendry and hands-down better than he is, and that says way more about him than it does about either of them.

 

I said it last week when they were winning games and I'm saying it now. This team looks very shaky. Too many shots on goal. Not a lot of energy out of the forecheck. Not getting much from anyone outside of Toews, Hossa, Kane and Sharp. That's just not going to cut it.

 

Campbell coming back will help, and once he comes back I think they just need to go with Cullimore and Hendry as the 3rd defensive pairing. Frankly, Jon Scott is useless. Nice try on that signing, Bowman, but he brings nothing to the table. And I don't mind keeping Boynton around in case injuries pop up, but he should be a healthy scratch most nights.

the game was on comcast for some reason. I watched most of the first period and Niemi was terrible. Calgary was outplaying SJ, but the goalie needs to make a couple of those stops to keep his team in the game when the ice is tilted.

i still am torn on my feelings for niemi. on one hand ill always love every player on that cup winning team, but it really annoyed me how his situation played out. i think he was mostly the victim of bad advice.

 

every time i see that he got rocked, i feel both sad and also a little bit satisfied. weird feeling.

 

oh well, dude was/is a mediocre goalie and i'm glad we went with turco instead.
