these unwritten "playing the game the right way" things are the worst. who gives a [expletive] if he wants to steal? either throw him out or don't; stealing bases is part of the game and there shouldn't be a time when it's not okay to do it.

lol what a joke. retaliating by stealing bases? give me a break.

Absolutely. He was doing nothing more than showing them up.

You can't be serious.

Baseball players can't fight. Was like watching a fight in the NBA. Volstad should be ashamed of himself for being that big and still getting tackled by Morgan.

I would pay to see what Z would have done to a player Morgan's size in that situation.

But yeah, baseball fights are usually pretty lame. Unless they involve Kyle Farnsworth.

It's been a while since I saw Farnsworth demolish Paul Wilson: http://vlog.xuite.net/play/aklDS1p6LTM1NTU5Mi5mbHY=

That's a classic.

And Brandon Phillips rests his case. Give me a break

He's stolen 4 bases in his entire career when the margin was greater than 4 runs. 2 of them came that inning.

He knew exactly what he was doing and knew he was probably going to get thrown at again.

he's played his entire career on pittsburgh and washington. this was only like the 5th time in his entire career he was even in a game that his team was leading by that much.

No, but he's been losing by that much quite often. Which was the situation in this game, as well.

His team was losing, and he's played in 110 games where the margin was greater than 4 runs. Considering that he's only played for Washington and Pittsburgh, it's safe to say that he's been on the losing end of those games more often than not. And half of his steals in those situations came in this one game. I understand arguing that the unwritten rule is stupid or whatever, but Morgan knew what he was doing and knew what the repercussions would be. And based on his behavior the last few weeks, he got the fight he's been looking for.

Nyjer most likely stole to bases to piss the Marlins off but it's still playing baseball. Trying to hurt a player for something stupid like playing a game is kind of dumb.

Unwritten rules are stupid in general. Should a team that is winning by a large margin stop playing competitively? My boss is a HS coach and someone asked if he was going to let up and he replied with, "Are you going to stop trying to catch up?" As long as their is another team in the same game with the same goal, you can't really let up. Sure you don't have to pour it on and risk injury, but you can't just coast.

There's not much you can do in baseball. But in HS sports you can and should absolutely let up when humiliating an opponent. 70-0 football games and 100-2 basketball games are stupid.

Until I finally read this thread, I've thought this entire time that his team was up by 11 or whatever runs. Not down by that many. I don't see how anyone could think that he was doing something stupid, besides maybe the Nats' manager.
