With A Rod hitting the DL, could Aramis appeal to the Yankees? Even though Bostons pretty much out of it, the Rays are giving them more of a run for their money than they would have thought, and If ever there is a team that could afford to pick up his 2011 option, its them. A Rod isnt expected to miss more time than the minimum, but since this is an AL team were talking bout, when he returns Aramis would provide them with a much better DH than Marcus Thames.

Im OK with keeping Aramis around next year, but if we could shed some salary and get some prospects in return, Id be all for it.

trade A-Ram, lose the rest of our games, draft Anthony Rendon, have him skip the minors and install him at third at the start of next season....

Dont be so sure. Keep in mind he has a 2011 player option for something like 16 mil.

I'm pretty sure he'd be claimed. His salary is large, but teams would look at his production since around mid-May and see the same Aramis as previous years. He's well worth the salary.

I still think there's a good chance he'll opt out and go for a longer deal.

Much as I love A-Ram, I want him to opt out and move on simply because I hope it would force the Cubs to tear this thing down and rebuild it.

Honestly, if someone claimed him - I would let them. Not because he is terrible, but because it allows us more flexibility in payroll next year.

I would rather go into 2011 with his money (and Lee's & Lilly's) going towards a LH power hitting 1B, get a #2 SP, improve the 8th inning guys in the bullpen, and have an infield of DeWitt and Castro and two FAs, than hope that ARam improves on his 2010 numbers at the age of 33 with injury problems.

You have the opportunity to get more left-handed and could fix the lineup if Ramirez leaves. EXAMPLE ONLY:

1. SS - Castro (RH)

2. 2B/3B - FA/Trade (LH)

3. CF - Byrd (RH)

4. 1B - FA/Trade (LH)

5. LF - Soriano (RH)

6. RF - Colvin (LH)

7. C - Soto (RH)

8. 2B/3B - DeWitt (LH)

Not many LH third basemen.

It sounds great to say that they free up payroll by dumping Ramirez, but who do you target instead? Vitters isn't an option, Marquez Smith is a bench bat unless you want to try to compete with the Royals on talent level, and the FA options are Beltre and no one. Ramirez is probably the best combo of production for the money next year without making the offense even worse.

Not sure if you were being facetious or not but the draft based on 2010 results (with Rendon) is June 2011 so that wouldn't work.

If Ramirez does opt out is there any possibility of acquiring Uggla and moving DeWitt to 3rd? Then aim for Dunn.

Castro

Byrd

Uggla

Dunn

Soto

Soriano

DeWitt

Colvin

Does not seem like too bad of a lineup

Which is why I'm still convinced he'll opt out (assuming he keeps up his second half .900+ OPS).

Any option that puts DeWitt at 3B makes me sad.

Anyone hear Brenly's comments on Ramirez? I believe the quote was "I know its nearing the end of a horrible season but is Ramirez going to get in front of a groundball ever again?"

I have not been watching closely but is this the case? As i do not necessarily want Brenly as manager I do generally agree with him as an analyst. Maybe Ramirez is trying to stay healthy for free agency?

I assumed he cleared waivers a while back.

Unless they're getting a hell of a return there's little point in the Cubs trading Aramis. It's not like you're freeing up his money for a strong FA class or have any options to fill in at 3B. The Cubs already have to figure out what to do at 1B, so it's much smarter just to hold on to Aramis for at least another season and hope he has a bounce back season/

I'd let him go in a heartbeat if someone claimed him. He usually looks like he's barely trying. Think he's gone full Roger Dorn. Gives every tough ground ball that ole' bs.

Good god, I would pay a lot of money if people could no longer use Bull Durham or Major League as the basis for their inane complaints.

But how much would you pay if your third baseman would get in front of a ground ball?

Bidding starts at just under $17 million, which means he got paid something around $104,000 to play today.

So he got fooled on the hop and misplayed it. Things happen.

He also hit a two run shot to give the Cubs the only lead they had in the game. You really want to pick on him for today's performance?

Is that same 3B the guy who's been the best hitter on the team from 2004-2009?
