Wisconsin and Iowa will be in separate divisions

So OSU and UM will be split, PSU and Nebraska will prob be split, and UW and Iowa will be split.

The Wisconsin and Iowa rivalry may very well be a victim of the alignment.

I can live with that if we still have Minnesota and add Nebraska. Plus it could always be the protected crossover game, depending on where Minnesota goes. What's freaking me out is the possibility that Iowa gets sent to the East so Wisconsin can stay with Minnesota. Plus Barry and Bret have been telling everyone that will listen how badly they want Nebraska to end the year. They have more pull than Barta and Iowa as the least populated state in the mix (well Nebraska but they have more history) is probably the most likely to get hosed.

Here's Rittenberg's entry on this which I find interesting: http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/14936/division-dominoes-wisconsin-iowa-to-split

He has Wisconsin and Minnesota going to the East with the Indiana schools and OSU/PSU and the Michigan and Illinois schools going west with Iowa and Nebraska. That could set up an awesome final Saturday of rivalry games in the division. Michigan-MSU, Iowa-Nebraska, Illinois-Northwestern, Ohio State-PSU, Wisconsin-Minnesota, Purdue-Indiana.

I think Rittenberg has it right, though an Iowa columnist predicted it last week.

The crossovers will likely be:

Michigan - Ohio State

Michigan State - Penn State

Iowa - Minnesota

Nebraska - Wisconsin

Northwestern - Purdue

Illinois - Indiana

I hope so. If you're splitting Michigan and OSU, that's about the best you can do.

I still think splitting Michigan and Ohio State is a bad idea, but hopefully it plays out this way. There isn't another setup that would work as well given what we know.

North Carolina could be in even more trouble. The school has reportedly uncovered academic infractions by the football team. They're holding a press conference tonight.

Scout.com[/url]"]CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- North Carolina has submitted academic infractions regarding its football team to the NCAA, according to sources close to the situation. The University has announced a press conference Thursday for 7:30 p.m.

Officials from North Carolina uncovered the academic issues in its own review, pertaining to a tutor, and self-reported the findings to the NCAA.

Sources report the various players involved were relegated to the scout team at practice on Wednesday.

North Carolina has announced it will hold a press conference on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. for what it is calling "an update on the NCAA investigation." In attendance will be chancellor Holden Thorp, athletic director Dick Baddour, and football coach Butch Davis.

These academic findings are a new element to the ongoing NCAA investigation.

And now reports are saying that roughly 9 players, including some standouts, had papers written by a former tutor and were placed on the scout team for the time being.

The NCAA investigators really could use hotel rates in the southeast states as low as the rates those South Carolina players were getting.

And the latest little twist is that the tutor in question was also Butch Davis' nanny. That's not good...

Local meat head radio show (Chris Spielman and some other guy) were crying all afternoon about the proposal to NOT have the OSU vs. UM game as the last game of the regular season. To them, the game being even one week earlier completely destroys the rivalry and makes the game no different than a match up with Purdue or Minnesota.

Their sources told them that they might move OSU vs. PSU to the final game of the season every year.

Yeah that would make sense with the divisional alignments speculated above. The last week could set up perfectly for intra-division rivalries.

One week from tonight I will be a happy man.

Georgia RB Washaun Ealey was arrested this morning for hit and run and driving on a suspended license after hitting a parked car in a parking garage with a friend's car and then leaving the scene, despite being told by a UGA parking services employee that he couldn't leave.

He's player #8 at Georgia to be arrested this year. EIGHT. But hey, he wasn't charged with a DUI, so that's an improvement.

Mizzou is apparently bound and determined to take the Fullmer Cup this year. This week they've had one of their best LBs get a DUI, and now Derrick Washington is apparently accused of sexual assault and is suspended indefinitely. Combined with the injuries in camp I'm just hoping to survive Illinois and then get to full strength for conference play.

Still too far away.

I believe Fitz confirmed that they'll be taking the el down to the game, though.

I prefer the OSU-PSU game. At least I can find a team to root for

Oooh another Saturday afternoon game for me to be an obnoxious state schooler on the road? Can't wait.

Much better purple to orange ratio than Welsh-Ryan.

I'm interested to see what the divide will be like with the game being at Wrigley. I know there are some serious limitations in place to keep these tickets in-house for NU, but Illinois fans have their ways. If we can put out a half-way decent team leading up to this game, I'd expect a sizable contingent of orange.

I honestly think it'll be 70-80% Northwestern fans, which I wasn't so sure about when the game was announced. Illinois gets their 2,000 tickets, the Cubs get 5,000 or so, and brokers and some Illinois fans got some season tickets. But from what I've read, Northwestern fans will definitely be in the majority.

In typical Northwestern fashion, the most expensive seats ($150) were the first to go. I'm pretty sure they could have sold out a $500 section if there was catering included if that was an option.
