I'm not sure UT-Bama registers as a big rivalry outside of SEC country...although it sure would've been nice if the Vols woulda beat them last year.

UT-Florida was huge, though, especially in the Spurrier years when UT was also a national power. I remember it being the first, enormous game of the year because it's usually in September. For awhile it also seemed like the first SEC nationally televised night game and those are always big.

I specifically remember Alex Brown owning UT singlehandedly one season.

I hate you for that.

And I think the reason Bama-UT hasn't been massive outside of the SEC is because they're never national powers at the same time. Bama was through the Bear Bryant era and into the early 90s, then dropped off. UT picked up from there and was a national power through the early 2000s. Then when UT dropped off, Saban came to Bama and they picked up. UT-UF had the fortune of both teams being top 5-10 powers in the nation each year.

This is how all lineman who get kicked off a team should go out:

Tyler Thomas has been kicked off the Oregon State football team, coach Mike Riley said Monday morning.

Thomas, a redshirt freshman offensive lineman, was involved in his second run-in with the law this year.

.....

According to information from the Corvallis Police Department, at about 4:51 a.m., police were called to 519 N.W. 14th Street after a 32-year-old woman reported there was a naked man in the upstairs office of her residence.

When officers arrived, they ordered him to get on the ground several times, but he refused.

Then Thomas, who had reportedly been drinking, got into a “three-point stance” and lunged at the officers, who Tased him.

Thomas was booked into Benton County Jail but was released later the same day.

I can't blame a kid for being in a stranger's house at 5 AM, or for being naked at 5 AM. But the 2 combined are pretty bad at most schools. Assaulting the police officer is pretty bad at Oregon St.

Someone's jealous their university doesn't have such a deep repertoire of hip hop talent. To wit:

Weslye Saunders got himself suspended by Spurrier. Not because of the NCAA investigation into him, but because he told his coaches he had missed several meetings because he was meeting with NCAA investigators when he wasn't.

Not that he's expected to miss the first game, but next time try to come up with an excuse that can't easily be checked out with a simple phone call.

sometimes I miss college, but then I see things like that and don't think I could handle the incredible increase in douchebaggery that's taken place in the last 10 years.

Don't sell yourself short. I'm sure you were a giant douchebag in college... ;)

I figured someone would call me a giant douchebag now, so I guess this was better than it could have been.

oh, and brian kelly has apparently talked with nbc about the flow of the game and how it fits with his style. hopefully there won't be 4-minute commercial breaks every 15 minutes this year.

I did, but I deleted it because I didn't want another fight

Here's a good article on the Big Ten 9 game conference schedule situation. It does look like it will happen. The problem right now is that they need to wait until a time (like 2015) when non-conference schedules are open enough to try and ensure that every school is ensured 7 home games a season. It doesn't sound like they've decided on whether or not to add a 2nd protected crossover game once that happens, but they'll tackle that situation once they can set at least the 2011 schedule. Scheduling for the next season or two is what's holding up the division alignment announcement.

Still, according to what Delany said a few days ago, that announcement should come by mid-September at the latest.

I assumed they wanted the divisional alignments announced before the season began so they didn't think attention was being taken from the actual games. I don't know whether I should hold out hope for them to get it right though. It's so easy but it sounds like they're going to completely mess it up.
