I said I wouldn't do it, but the hype is starting to get me excited.

Football season always gets me excited. The combination of the last few beach days of the year, with no more 100 degree humid days, smaller crowds, and then driving home early Sunday morning to watch the games is just the best.

I didn't really mean that wasn't going to get excited for football, though I certainly see how you got that from my post. I just meant that I told myself I wasn't going to let the Bears hype get me overly excited/optimistic about the Bears chances...but I can't help it.

Yeah, but all the excitement about football in general inevitably awakens my suppressed optimism for the Bears. If they win their first game I'll have them penciled into the 2nd round of the playoffs.

I hear ya man. And really, in mind this is a "can't lose" season, in a way....if you look really hard...and squint.

If we win, we win of course....but if we stink, then at least Lovie and Angelo will be gone.

I thought that last year.

Damn...good point.

I'm not going to deny myself any and all optimism about the Bears. At this juncture, it's impossible to say they can't do something. Too many times in the NFL teams surprise and make the playoffs when it looked like they wouldn't at the beginning of the year. The league is too volatile, the nature of the game too unpredictable. As a fan, I'm going to cling to hope until proven otherwise.

I will turn pessimistic when faced with the reality of the present-day suckage. I see no reason to do that right now.

In the process of getting tickets to the Bears at NY Giants Sunday night game, Oct 3. :beg: Ironically enough, game I went to last year was a Sunday night game, Week 4 (oct 4, Chargers/Steelers).

I'm so pissed about the scheduling of the NY games. Any other week and I would have gone to that one, and anything other than Christmas and I would have gone to the Jets game in Chicago.

Yeah, I was alll set to go to Toronto for the Bears/Bills, but that game is the same weekend as my son's 1st birthday. Dallas game was a longshot, but that wouldn't have worked out anyway.

Paul Allen (voice of the Vikings on the radio) was just on the Score giving high praise to the Bears. Said Chester Taylor was one of the biggest pickups of any club during the offseason. Says he never misses a blitz pickup, ever (as Bear fans can attest, if true it is huge). Said Mike Tice is the best coach at getting maximum effort from minimum talent, and was a huge pickup for the Bears.

It's interesting to hear because the man hates all things Bears and rarely misses an opportunity to take shots at Chicago. Allen is the play-by-play guy best known for his announcing of the Vikings loss to Arizona at the end of the season a couple years ago. I think he's one of the best NFL play-by-play guys on the radio.

I agree with PA. Tice is a hell of an o-line coach and I love me some Chester. I praised the Tice hire on here when it happened and wish he didn't go there. I like Cutler more than most non-Bears fans. I'm just really unsure about how Martz's offense is going to work with that o-line and Cutler.

i don't think anyone knows what to expect. nothing would surprise me.

i like the fact that martz has guts, though, and i think his personalty will be tough for lovie to override on 4th and short.

Would appear to be, but doesn't seem like something that needed to be teased with a breakingnews story.

Maybe it's like CNBC where there's always breaking news. Breaking News: Dow up 0.1%

Biggs is all over everything. I kind of appreciate it, but yeah - sometimes it feels like he overdoes it a bit. Unless this wasn't what he was talking about...

The offensive line is tentatively set with Williams-Garza-Kreutz-Louis-Omiyale. Hopefully Louis turns into a good player...he's really athletic but raw. I remember he had some character issues coming out of school too and now he's being converted from TE to LG.

Sometimes a young, raw talent like that will flourish when given the chance. We can only hope. I'm glad Martz/Tice are trying it.

I think Tommie's (and recall reading the same about Toeina on 1 play in particular) been lighting him up in practice though. I wonder what happened w/ Asiata? Was he that bad? What about Beekman? Though I figured he wouldn't be the starter.

Come on now, it's been what? A couple days? Give the kid a chance.

A couple days was long enough to put Asiata and Beekman on the 2nd team.

"The guys are going to get knocked off routes, something is going to happen, the defender is going to get in the way, and the ball's going to be gone," Cutler said. "That's part of this offense. It's not a read and see what happens and let it fly, it's a read and let it fly. So balls are going to be in the air.

"And they understand that. That's been a point of emphasis since February and March. So they're conscious of it. They don't want to be the guy that isn't in the right spot. They have a lot of pride. It's a young group, but they understand what the impact could be if they're not in the right spot."

i thought the part about "see what happens" is obviously a dig at turner.

i don't think our receivers are the sharpest tools in the shed, so an offense that tells them where to be, rather then gives them the opportunity to react and other options probably wasn't best for them.

"johnny, run as fast as you can to this spot and catch the ball."

that'll work.

So? If one of them would have been named starter, I'd give them at least a few weeks to see what they could do, too.
