Matt Murton tearing up Japan

Let's get this over with now...

Murton never got the shot he deserved at the major league level.

-- He got plenty of shots. There's a reason teams passed him over.

They passed him over because they were stupid. He's better than quite a few players getting time at the big league level.

-- Oh yeah? Then why is he in Japan? There's a reason teams didn't want him.

What's the reason?

-- Because other teams didn't want him.

Good for Murt. In a world where Fukudome is considered a prodigious home run hitter and Tuffy Rhodes shares the single season HR mark, it's good to see little red succeed.

Kosuke wasn't considered a prodigious home run hitter.

I don't know what prodigious is in Japan, but he hit a HR every 16.27 ABs his last 4 seasons in Japan. That'd probably put him in the top 10 in the MLB this year.

It would not.

For reference, Dunn is 10th in the majors with a HR every 15.3 AB.

Go, Matty, go.

I pulled up the Hanshin Tigers site and let Chrome translate it.

According to his translated player page, he's totally awesome:

365 hits, 29 stolen bases in 127 at bats, 09 balls to lead

Here's the official website of Nippon Professional Baseball:

Here's Murton's player page:

Craig Brazell is also leading the league with 30 HR's, just saying. Murton is on pace to break Ichiro's record for hits in a season which is pretty cool.

does anyone remember craig brazell's one and only major league home run? i sure as [expletive] do since i witnessed it in person.

You all suck. Fine. Kosuke was an above average HR hitter in Japan, compared with the HR rates of typical MLB hitters. I wish I could find Japanese baseball stats so I could hopefully see 16.3 amongst the best in the league so I could run back here and rub it in your faces.

So he's found a level he can succeed at, and it's not the top level.

Good for him. I wish Matty Murt well.

Once again:

Career 105 wRC+, above average defensively in left.

He succeeded at the major league level.
