Listening to the Iowa Cubs broadcast and they said Hung-Wen Chen was promoted from Tennessee to Iowa.

Iowa's July 5th game notes confirms the news:

CHEN JOINS I-CUBS: The I-Cubs have added RH Hung-Wen Chen to the roster from double-A Tennessee today. Chen was 8-6 with a 2.96 ERA in 16 starts with the Smokies and is currently tied for third in the Southern League in wins and innings pitched (97.1) and was recently named a SL All-Star. He was 4-0 with a 2.53 ERA in June and was named the SL Pitcher of the Week for June 14-20. The Cubs signed Chen as a non-drafted free agent on April 12, 2007. He hails from Keelung City, Taiwan and pitched for Taiwan in the 2005 Baseball World Cup.

What does everyone think about Hak Ju Lee? I'm impressed with his base-stealing prowess and his ability to take a walk. Now has stolen 46 bases and only been caught 12 times (almost 80% total, 84% this year). Walk rate is a solid 0.090 BB/PA. But he has shown absolutely 0 power. His numbers are almost identical to his numbers at Boise last year, except for BABIP (.400 last year vs. .322 this year).

I could see rating him as high as the #2 prospect in this system. Frankie Piliere mentioned that his defense is currently good enough for the big leagues. He regularly makes stellar plays at SS, plus his arm and range are stellar. His speed is a definite plus, as is his ability to take a walk. If he develops any useful power, he could be one of the best prospects in baseball.

He still has a bit of work to do, but nevertheless, he's doing a good job of living up to his potential.

Jay Jackson getting beat up again, 5 ER on 6 H through 5 IP. 5/1 K/BB, so theres that I guess.

He was cruising through 4, so it looks like he ran out of steam and gave up the HR.

While batting before he went back out there in the 5th, he busted his ass to try to beat out an IF single and then got caught up in an argument when he was ruled out. The announcer thought that might have taken a bit out of him too (must have been a hell of an argument).

His first 4 sounded as good as the box score said.

I was kind of wondering what the heck was going on with the Iowa game since the box score was updating really erratically. Link (complete with fun picture!)

The start of Monday's game was delayed for 1:16, and a second delay lasted over an hour and a half.

Second straight start for Yao-Lin Wang where he throws 3 shutout but then can't retire the first 3 batters in the 4th and they all end up scoring.

Gotta imagine Ryan Cuneo and Cam Greathouse are ready to move to Boise (especially Cuneo considering how bad Boise's offense is). And a nice debut for Austin Reed.

From what I have heard, he is an amazing defensive player to go along with the speed and patience that you mention. Now he is 6'2" according to Baseball Reference and he's still 19 years-old. I don't think it's impossible that he develops a bit more power as he ages. He shows signs of knowing what he's doing at the plate, which is very important in a prospect - he's shown that he can take a good approach.

Plus, I think that .322 BABIP is low given his skillset and the level he's playing at.

Vitters is already a bust! BUSSSSTTTTT!!!!

However, I am starting to worry about Jackson. I mean, he only got on base one time last night. You know who else had games where they only got on base once? Corey Patterson. And probably Hitler, too.

So the person who said "don't Vitter out on us" after a guy goes 0-3 with a BB is the smart one? Noted.

Also, to "Vitter out" apparently means to be very young for your league and to struggle at first when promoted aggessively, but then adjust nicely after given a few months to figure things out.

Oh heaven forbid somebody make a snide remark about a top draft pick who is playing like crap. Not sure where this adjustment supposedly happened, he's been crap since the callup. I guess one must always assume that a top Cubs pick who isn't performing eventually will perform because the Cubs saw fit to promote him despite a lack of performance.

It's amazing how defensively foolish people sound when somebody points out a prospect has been disappointing.

You went out of your way to make a comment on one player for the sole reason of criticizing another player. I'm not sure what else you expected.

The adjustment hasn't happened yet at AA, but the adjustments being referred to were the ones that happened at the previous levels. He struggled at first at Low A and then made the adjustment and started crushing the ball, then was promoted rather quickly to High A where he struggled at first again and then eventually start hitting the ball well. The Cubs then saw fit to promote him very quickly after not much time succeeding at High A.

The pattern and evidence is there in black and white. It doesn't mean that he is or is not a bust. That's up to you. For me, when I look at that pattern of struggling at first and then eventually figuring it out, the fact that he's 20 and playing at AA and the fact that the jump from A+ to AA is considered the hardest of all the promotions, I'm willing to be patient.

It is totally fair to say that he is currently performing like crap. But to say he's a bust, doesn't appear to be supported by the facts quite yet.

I think that was West Side Rooter who did that. Or am I missing something?

You're not doing yourself any favors going out of your way in every single thread to talk about how little you think of Vitters. The act is getting stale.
