"We owe it to our fans to put this team in the best possible position to win," owner Jeffrey Loria said in a statement.

What fans?

"Everyone knows how I feel about winning. That's the reason we're making this change."

How do you feel about winning, Jeffrey Loria? Cause last time I checked, you're a douche horn who likes to get rid of all your big contracts after winning the world series instead of, oh I don't know, keeping them around to increase your chances of another great season and potentially getting more fans to the stadium giving you a bit more revenue. It seems to me you like winning for one particular season, and then not winning for the next 7 or so.

BALTIMORE -- Fredi Gonzalez was fired as manager of the Florida Marlins on Wednesday, with the team owner saying "we can do better and be better."

Maybe if the owner didn't pocket the revenue sharing money, and actually spent it on the team, the team would be better! I can't speak for Fredi Gonzalez's managing skills, but good grief! The owner is more of the problem than the manager.

Must be nice to have a front office not happy with how your team is playing and make changes. With that said, Im guessing the Braves just got their replacement for Bobby Cox when he leaves at the end of the year.

I can see that, but I bet the O's try and make a play for him. He was decent at managing young talent, and the O's are filled with young talent who are underachieving big time.

So whats that, 15 or 16 world Series titles for the Cubs under this plan?

Touché... but the Cubs never sold high on anything, and if they did win the world series, there's no way they would get rid of the players that got them there. They'd probably give them all insane extensions that make them untradable.

"The Cubs are trying to move Ryan Theriot, the 2010 World Series hero who singled in the series winning run, but are having trouble finding takers on the $75 million remaining on his contract"

Im sure Baltimore will try makeing a play for him, but if I had to guess Freddi doesn't accept any job until he hears from the Braves that they aren't interested in bringing him back to the organization.

Sounds like Bobby V is the top candidate for the Marlins job

ha ha jeff loria is hot garbage

I bet you wouldn't mind what kind of owner he was if he brought you a WS ring. I'll take him.

saying you'd be fine with loria here makes it obvious that you know absolutely nothing about him

The joy of winning the world series be sapped somewhat when I saw that piece of [expletive] holding the trophy next to Selig.

And I'm not even being sarcastic.

exactly. I think I'd feel worse about a WS with Loria than if we'd paid off the umpires or something.

I'd enjoy it with no reservations.

loria is lucky to have won a title. all the stars aligned and the marlins won, it's not like he turned into a big spender in 2003, they were still a low to mid salary team that happened to have some very good young players and a handful of veterans that caught fire at the end of the year and did well in the playoffs. i'd be fine if the cubs bought a world series and dismantled for the next seven years, but it's more likely that you'd still lose that one season and then suck ass for the next seven.
