Of course Koye will start today and the minimum PA's for Soto to reach will rise.

Why would Hill start after an off day?

Everyone in the everyday starting lineup is hitting over .300 except Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez, who are each hitting .230 or lower

Ryan Theriot has 1 fewer XBH, 3 fewer RBI, and 5 fewer BB than Aramis Ramirez, but is out OPS'ing him by .246 points (.727 vs. .481)

Starting Lineup with Castro combined OPS = .856

Starting Lineup with Fontenot combined OPS = .818

Starting Lineup with Castro minus Lee & Ramirez combined OPS = .947

Starting Lineup with Fonteno minus Lee & Ramirez combine OPS = .896

I know... Castro... small sample size. The point is Lee and Ramirez really need to knock it the eff off. This [expletive] isn't funny anymore.

The walk rate is a bit of a concern.

I'll add Silva to that sentiment too. If someone had told me all 3 of those guys would be producing at a high level, I would have thought the Cubs would be having a hell of a hot start.

Baseball is a strange game indeed.

As an aggregate, the Cubs offense is actually a bit better than last year's. 7th in the league at 4.6 runs a game versus 9th in the league at 4.39 last year, across the board better BA, OBP, and Slugging.

The problem is that it's sooooo inconsistent. 15 games scoring two runs or less out of 35. Houston, the worst scoring team in the league at 3.06 runs per game, has had 17 games of two runs or less out of 34. The second worst scoring team in the league, Pittsburgh, at 3.35 runs per game has had 14 games of two runs or less out of 34. The Padres are the third worst scoring team in the league at 4.29 runs per game, and they've only had 10 games of less than 3 runs out of 34 games.

Essentially, while the Cubs aggregate numbers are mediocre, they have been just as likely to put up an offensive no-show as the worst offensive teams in the league. Generally, you'd expect a team's offensive production to graph out like a bell curve with a big hump between 4 and 5 runs and a gradual decline from there. However, if you graphed out the Cub's offensive production, you'd see a giant spike at 2 runs, and then a nearly flat graph from there.

The bullpen certainly hasn't helped. The team ERA is up about a half a run, and that can be attributed largely to the bullpen, whose ERA is up a whole point from last year. The starters' ERAs are up about .3 runs.

Yeah it's pretty annoying. Three of our starters have been pretty good and most of the starters on offense are doing pretty good. Why the hell aren't we winning?

Baseball is dumb.

Not trying to be an alarmist or a Geo hater, but I noticed he's cooled off a bit over the last 8-10 days.

3-24 with 0 XBH and 3 walks in his last 8 games for a line of .125/.250/.125/.375

Every player goes through those though. Just don't want it to become extended like it has sometimes in the past for him.

Just to add further insult to our injury the Pirates have been outscored by 93 runs, the largest negative run differential in the entire major leagues (Houston in a distant second with -60 RD)...... and they're ahead of us by .5 games

Well not to be a Soto apologist, but in that span he has narrowly missed 2 HR and was a victim of the worst called strike 3 I've ever seen. Really wish someone had a GIF of that.

He's also had some rockets right at people. I wonder what his LD% is over that time frame? I would imagine it is very respectable.
