That was not fun at all. Until the end, I mean.

-Marmol overcame a lot of questionable calls at home plate.

-Soriano is... back?

-Silva's first bad start of the year.

Silva's first bad start of the year.

If you had said this a month ago, I think the predictions would have been a lot worse than 5 ER in 5 IP, especially with the wind blowing straight out.

Last year?

Yeah, but why still act surprised that's "back?" It's not like he's just started hitting in the last few games. He's been looking good most of the season now.

I only saw the first 3 innings of the game, but I remember hearing Len say something like "Now we are obligated to report information that we think is interesting, so don't take this out on us but...Reynolds and Upton have never hit regular season HRs against the Cubs" and then went on to explain how the Cubs pitch them well or something.

So imagine my surprise when I check the box score after the game and see that Upton homered and Reynolds hit 2 HRs.

I will say this about Soriano, at all the games ive been to this year which is 6, he and Rudy have gone after BP to work in the batting cages for about 20 minutes. Ive only seen one other player do this and thats Byrd once.

Bob Brenley: We've already seen the Cubs break up more double-plays than all of last season and I think this is directly attributable to Marlon Byrd's influence on this team!

Maybe just stop talking for a while, Robert.

If A-Ram can get going it wouldn't surprise me if we ripped off 11 of 15 or something similar. A lot of other guys are swinging hot bats.

I was at today's game. Can't ask for much more. Perfect weather. Comeback. Cubs win after late inning heroics.

Bob's also got Theriot as the cub who would get votes for player of the month after Byrd. Soto, Fuku, and Soriano say hi?

Bob's managed, and I'm sure he likes seeing guys who go 100% all the time. Maybe he sees that in Marlon.

I about yelled at the TV when Bob said that. Of everyone on this team that gets regular playing time, Theriot has played better than Fontenot, Lee and Ramirez (and really, he hasn't been that much better than Lee even as Lee turns in a pretty bad April). That's it.

Don't get me wrong, I want to like Theriot, and if he keeps hitting .330 or whatever it is I'll be more than pleased with him, but that was just a ridiculous thing to say on Bob's part.

If this is the Fuku that we get for the rest of this year and next year, I say we resign him. He's been purely delightful this year.

Not to dog on Fuku, but this isn't the first season he's started out the season hot. The guy has a career 1.004 OPS in April, and his highest OPS month after that is .808, in May. By the time you get to September, his career OPS is .611. I'd love to see him with a consistently good year, but so far this season's story has started out exactly like the first 2.

Sori did that every day in 08 and 09 as well. He always takes a trip to cage w/ the hitting coach before gametime.

I think that pithchers got the book on him fairly early on in 2008, and hopefully hes made his own adjustments. Remember, 2009 bad Fuku wasnt quite as worthless as 2008 brutal Fuku. Also, we havnt see a lot of Fukucoptors this season, which is a good sign. His 2008 approach was to wait to get to a full count, and foul off every pitch until one was way off for an obvious ball or he could get ahold of one for a base hit. Pitchers learned that one he was in that zone, if they keep throwing low and away, hed swing right through one. He still sees a lot of low and away pitches and ist spinning back to the dugout in a cartoonish manner.I dont think he'll be hitting .350 or even .300 all year, but hopefully we can get a .280s/mid.800s type of slash line from him.

we're only a month in after a terrible year last year. I don't think it's terrible for some people to want to see a month (or more) of ABs before they determine last year was a blip (injury related or otherwise) rather than a trend.

I only watched the last few innings. Was the umpire terribly inconsistent with balls and strikes all game?

Who said it was terrible? My response was based on the comment sounding like Soriano had just picked up in the last few games.
