"I'd fit in well. I bring what I know about the game and my athleticism and versatility. Knowing my smarts for the game, leadership, anything I can add to get these guys over the edge. Without me, without (Carlos) Boozer, they're a .500 club. With the guys we added, we'll be 30 better."

30 what better? 30 wins? He ceratinly can't believe that. Or maybe he just sucks at math and doesn't realize that would put them at 71 wins. Or maybe he thinks he would bring them up to a .530 winning %.

I believe he means 30 better than .500, or 56-26.

I don't want McGrady anymore (was never really for it, but was warming to the idea). Just the fact that he's even talking about the potential to be a starter gives me pause.

That's great if he thinks he can still play like the old TMac of old, but if you are really looking to be a team player and you really want to play for the Bulls, you play the team card to the public, and you use it as motivation to play your ass off and earn being a starter. Yes it's obvious that Brewer isn't nearly good enough to be the Bulls long term option at SG, but it's not a bad player to have because of his length and defense at the position. So yes it doesn't take an idiot to realize if the Bulls sign you and you dominate training camp you will probably be named the starter. But you also need to realize that's not the plan and that's not why you are being signed to this team.

I mean I know he's just trying to be confident, but the Bulls are already reportedly concerned about his ability to accept a reserve role (as they should be)...this won't help convince the Bulls.

"If I was the player I was in a Knicks uniform, I would have no problem coming off the bench," he said. "But I have worked extremely hard and I'm far from that player. It's up to me in training camp to prove I'm a starter."

Im not really for getting TMac, but Im not sure what he said in that quote that is making people say the don't want him etc... He says he has to come to camp and prove hes a starter, what is wrong with that? Hes not saying he should be given a starting job at all, hes openly saying he has to work for it. I see nothing wrong with his comments.

If things go according to plan Kurt Thomas is more of a bit player and insurance policy. Boozer and Gibson will take all the minutes at the 4 and Noah/Asik will get almost all the minutes at C unless Asik is really bad.

Isn't Kurt Thomas actually well liked by teammates?

I guess, but he's not good at basketball anymore.

He's like our 11th man...I can't think of many teams that have a better 11th man than Kurt Thomas. A ton of teams probably have comperable players, but not many are better.

TMac should close is mouth if he ever wants to be in the NBA again. The Bulls have to think less of him after his most recent comments. The Bulls don't need his attitude, especially with a rookie coach. McGrady just might have talked himself out of the only offer he was going to get. Even Vinny didn't like him.

What exactly did TMac say that was so bad?

It might help to actually show what you're talking about. We aren't ready/listening along with you.

Im sure hes talking about the quotes from TMac posted earlier in the thread. TMac had the audacity to say if he signed with the Bulls he would have to come to camp and prove hes a starter, can you believe that jerk? Man what a prick he is huh..........

Yeah, big pass on T Mac. He actually is implying that he will be a starter and a big part of the team. And what kind of salary is he going to expect.

Might as well sign Allen Iverson.

If the Bulls want him I bet they won't have to pay more than $1 million to get him. But I don't think they'll want him. I'd rather get Roger Mason Jr. if he's available.

Yeah, I don't get why having the drive to prove oneself is a negative. The guy was a susperstar of arguably the highest order. He's 18 months out from microfracture surgery. He's been relegated to (likely) less than even the MLE on a team's roster. So he's got a chip on his shoulder. I like that.

Keep in mind Coach T had him in Houston for three years. If he is as much of a jackass as people are saying, I seriously doubt that Boy Scout Pax, GarFor and Coach T would be considering him.

I thought the veteran minimum was $1.5MM. It doesn't have to be guaranteed, though.

That McGrady quote is exactly what you'd want him to say. and i'm not sure that signing him would be all this bad that people seem to think it is. are we missing out on something if we get him and he doesn't perform? even if he makes it a diva fest, what are we losing really? are we a finals team with basketball's version aaron miles instead of tmac? why not add a former superstar with a serious chip on his shoulder and a big thirst for a ring for a minimal amount of salary and see what happens?

TMac coming in and after training camp telling everyone that he thinks he deserves to be a starter and that a rookie head coach doesn't know how to coach or choose starters would not be a good thing for this team or any team for that matter. TMac is not a starter right now because he is at the end of his career after microfacture surgery. TMac said that if was played like he did for the Knicks he would be a bench player, but he clearly said that he is a better player than he was last year and is a starter. He doesn't fit with Thibodeau who likes his players to play defense. TMac has never played defense in his life.

Why would I want a washed up, injured veteran who doesn't have starter ability anymore thinking that he should be a starter for a team that has two players slotted ahead of him? How does believing a lie help the team? I'm all for TMac knowing his role and coming to the Bulls. Unfortunately he doesn't know his role.

Dan Bernstein made a good point today. Name one wing player who has had microfracture surgery surgery or major knee surgery who ever came to close to being his old self? McGrady has to know his role or at least keep it to himself.

i agree. i see no harm in trying to catch lightning in a bottle. i think rose will be able to create a lot of opportunities for him to get open shots.

He didn't say that. The quote was already posted on this page. I'm not sure how you can gather that he's saying that he should be a starter.

I am inferring, but it is a fair inference. By "prove" mean means he has to prove it to the team. In his mind, McGrady has already proven it to himself.

1. McGrady said that if he was the type of player he was in New York, he shouldn't be a starter.

2. McGrady clearly thinks he is better than the type of player he was in New York.

3. Therefore McGrady thinks he should be a starter.

He clearly said that since he is not the type of player he was in New York he would have a problem coming off the bench. He was just on the news and said that "the Bulls are a .500 team without me and Boozer." No, they are a .500 team without Boozer. They are a .500 team with you and without Boozer.

30 what better? 30 wins? He ceratinly can't believe that. Or maybe he just sucks at math and doesn't realize that would put them at 71 wins. Or maybe he thinks he would bring them up to a .530 winning %.

Or maybe he has no idea what he is talking about. That makes perfect sense.
