I know it's already been said, but that "no free agency tour" thing is a huge blow to the Knicks. I heard they were actually looking into renting some posh apartment with a view of the city to show off and such.

The NBA said they couldn't do this? Must be a new development.

Don't forget it is also a blow to Miami, cause the Heat can't show off South Beach to Lebron, if James isn't in the city. As I mention when it broke earlier in the day, I think this effectively eliminates the Knicks from the derby. They don't have anything the Bulls and to a lesser degree Miami can't beat.

I'm pretty sure LeBron has visited NY before and knows about the clubs and has seen the view of the city. I don't think he's really missing anything that would sway his decision.

I agree with Tim. I have been to NYC one time, back in college. I have a pretty damn good idea just how awesome of a town it is. I also am aware of the large number of celebrities, posh restaurants, tourist attractions, and millions of short people all over the 5 boroughs.

Chicago's no slouch. In Chi, he has a much better team to be surrounded by, and still gets to play in a world-class city with a pretty devoted basketball fan base.

Bosh made me nervous when he said he wanted to be the top dog, but I just cannot fathom that he'd prefer to keep his pretty 24/12 stat line over a freakin' 68 win machine of a team.

I simply haven't heard a possibility on any team, unless some absurd Gasol-for-free kind of deal pops up, that can beat Noah/Bosh/LBJ/Rose/X, in terms of where these FAs could go. These guys gotta be thinking that too, right?

Which means these teams that have to sell James on basketball related issues. No more of "seeing the city" and being guided by celebrities" cities like NY and Miami has to present legitimate gameplans. Miami can, NY can't. NY's pitch was NY and the opportunity to play with another MAX FA, something Chicago and Miami can both offer.

I personally think he is listening to the Nets, because of his friendship with Jay-Z. He's humoring both the Knicks and Clippers. Let's not forget Cleveland. I think he will legitimately give the Cavs once last shot at either signing him or trading for a MAX FA (a longshort but a shot nonetheless). Does he want to play in Miami where the Heat are Wade's team, or does he want his own team? I think this is why most signs are pointing to Chicago, and it is driving the Knicks fans kurrrrrrrrrazy.

How about this for a dream scenario? Sign James and Johnson, and then do a Deng/Gibson sign & trade with Toronto for Bosh.

It's probably no more than a dream but... Awesome.

Can that work out financially?

The Heat's gameplan is fascinating to me. They basically have no roster outside of Chalmers and then Beasley who they're desperately trying to deal all in the hopes of landing 3 max free agent's. The Bulls and Nets are at least set up to be decent if they strike out on the top 3 targets. The Knicks and Heat are going to be dreadful for years if they strike out.

Being decent in the NBA sucks. I want to be a true championship contender or have the most lottery balls if I'm an NBA GM. Nothing in between.

Of course, being "decent" is NBA hell. What I mean is a team like the Bulls can legitimately contend in the east if they missed out on the big 3 and ended up with something like Johnson/Boozer.

Oh, I know we'll never see it but it is fun to dream about. Two out of those three and we are an instant title contender.

But the meetings might not be much more than a formality. The executive, who did not want to be identified discussing a player who is not yet a free agent, said he had gathered from discussions with his fellow N.B.A. executives that James was strongly leaning toward joining the Bulls in tandem with another free agent, Chris Bosh of the Toronto Raptors.

“I think it’s a done deal,” the executive said.

He said he thought James was going ahead with the meetings in Ohio “to be respectful to all these teams who jumped through these hoops,” a reference to the clubs, like the Knicks, who traded reasonably talented players like Jamal Crawford the last two seasons in an effort to open up as much salary-cap space as possible. But if James and Bosh are indeed going to Chicago, moves like the ones the Knicks made will have been done at least partly in vain.

What I find interesting is that the executive used for this article is an executive, supposedy, of one of the six teams going to meet Lebron.

But this article does give credence to the Chad Ford article posted shortly after James' exit, you know this one

Either way, this is going to be a very hectic and perhaps an exciting couple of weeks for the city for Chicago.

That article also thought Calipari was going to be the new Bulls coach.

Well, exclude the JohnCal part, then Banedon. :D

I've had a tough time mustering up willpower to follow the Bulls too closely, but LBJ and Bosh would certainly make things easier.

I've been following this so closely for a few weeks now that I want to follow them no matter what. But I say that every offseason and then I realize in the fall that I have to actually watch basketball games to be a Bulls fan.

Hopefully this fall Bulls basketball will be fun to watch.

It's a lot easier for me to watch .500 basketball than .500 (or worse) baseball. Plus Rose is just a good watch.

But yeah I'm ready for the Bulls just to kick everyone's ass again. The sort of ass kicking where a regular season loss ruins my day ala 1996.
