Gotta watch Cash tonight and see if he can maintain his stuff past the 4th.

Very nice pitching lineup tonight, as TT mentioned. Should be interesting.

fabulous pitching matchups ... antigua going up against martinez mesa, cashner facing withrow, and jay jackson vs. lance lynn. Considering how badly the P-Chiefs offense is struggling, Antigua will need to be sharp against a loaded Cedar Rapids squad.

Rusin only got one out before leaving the game, not sure if it's injury or ineffectiveness.

Cashner, on the other hand, is just dirty. 2 IP, 4 K's, and just a fielding error by Lalli as a blemish.

I hope not but maybe Cashner is the 8th inning guy Lou mentioned. I highly doubt it but it is a thought especially if his stuff falters after 3-4 innings again.

Cashner is absolutely dealing. 5IP 0H 0BB 9k 71 Pitches. Jake Optiz also showing power that I didn't know existed. 2-2 2B and HR. I think Cashner has only gone to a two ball count a handful of times tonight.

6IP 0H 0ER 10k 84 pitches. I assume he's got to be done. It's unfortunate he wont get a chance to finish the no no. An error by Lalli is the only thing keeping it from being a bid for a perfect game.

Cashner at 84 pitches through 6 innings, I assume he's done. About as perfect as you can get.

No hits, no walks, 10 K, of the 8 in-play outs 5 are groundouts.

And he's 2-for-2 as a hitter besides!

Flaherty has a couple of hits, he's now well up into the .100's.

Cashner's K/9 is just shy of 18.00. His K/BB is 10.

If he's found a way to miss bats with regularity I think we all have reason to be tremendously excited.

He loses the no no in the 7th along with the shut out. Not really sure why he's still in the game at this point. Edited by Tryptamine

Final Line for Cashner: 6IP 2H 2ER 0BB 10K.

I really wish they hadn't brought him out for the 7th. No reason for him to be throwing 90 pitches even if he has a no no going.

i have to think that rusin was removed for injury in the first. he only gave up four singles; that's really not enough reason to pull a starter for "not having it"

i don't have a problem with cashner staying in for the 7th. he had a no-hitter and everyone says his biggest question is whether he can go deep into ballgames - keeping him under 100 pitches is acceptable for this time of year. obviously it's a great sign that AA hitters are having so much trouble with his stuff, and his command seems really good so far as well. maybe he'll be a guy who can only go about 5-6 innings a start but will generally be very effective. Lord knows there are enough guys in a bullpen these days to carry a pitcher like that on your roster.

brett jackson is 2-3 with a double and a walk... now an 8/4 BB/K ratio on the year. burke is 2-4 with a double.

not a very good start for antigua tonight: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 0 K, 10 GO/5 FO. hak-ju lee has a single, double and SB, so it looks like he's recovering from a lousy start.

I really dont see why bringing up Cashner would be the worst thing in the world. What we really need is that 8th inning guy. Im not saying that hes it, but if he can be, hes a lot more valuable there than as an ace in AA. And its not like it will ruin him as a starter for ever. Just ask Adam Wainwright.

He has to get used to at least that pitch count and he was stretched out that far (he only threw 8 pitches more than the previous outing). I don't see the problem although his line definitely doesn't look as pretty.

Brett Jackson won't be long for Daytona at this rate

My old boss said he spoke to Jackson at sprint training on one of the practice fields he asked Jackson if he would see him in the outfield for the Cubs in a couple of years, Jackson quickly responded "it will be sooner than that" smiling of course.

Lilly is starting for Iowa tonight, not Jay Jackson, for what it's worth.

lilly's final line: 4 ip, 1 h, 1 r, 1 bb, 4 k, 1 hr. no word on whether he spiked the glove after the home run.

jackson appears to be piggybacking with lilly. so far he's at 3 ip, 2 h, 1 r, 0 bb, 2 k, 1 hr.
