See that's taking it a little overboard in my opinion. Do you really think mentally it will help to sleep in a hotel the night before? If it does, won't coming into the arena and hearing 22k fans scream for you change that mindset quickly?

That said, I don't think it will change anything about the game positively or negatively, so if they want to stay in a hotel the night before, have fun.

They aren't spending the night in the hotel. They're spending the day in the hotel for pregame prep. It's kinda weird.

You're up 2-0, why get caught up in the whole "can't win at home" thing? It's not like they've been terrible at the united center.

Yeah I guess that is the one negative that can be had by doing this. You are starting to mentally believe the hype that you can't win at home if you do something like this.

I don't have a problem with it at all. Why not?

You're telling your guys, "we stink at home and have to mix things up." What if they lose that game? Then what? They are in total control, what is the point of introducing gimmicks?

They've been horrible in most of the home games in the playoffs. It may be a dumb gimmick, but I'm for anything that changes the mojo that we have entering home games.

How about we just play like we do on the road at the United Center? Is that really too much to ask for?

They are 3-2 at home in the playoffs, and dominated there in the regular season. I don't get the need to sound an alarm.

I would look at it more like them saying "We've been so ridiculously good on the road so far, we're going to try to simulate that to keep the momentum going". I also don't think it'll make much, if any difference, but what the heck, give it a shot. I certainly don't think it's a freak out because they don't think they can win at home.

They've been horrible at home yet horrible means 3-3 against competition that is playing with 100% intensity. They also had I think the 2nd best home record in the league this year. They are a really good home team. Like jersey said, the Hawks are in complete control of this series. Why take a chance of throwing any doubt in the team's mind by going out of your way to make it not feel like a home game. There is a very good chance that the Sharks come out and beat us tomorrow night whether or not we change anything. Their whole season is on the line for them, so they are going to throw everything at us. If we start changing up stuff and then we lose, then the media goes big time on the "winning at home struggles" and that's all we'll hear about from Friday until Sunday at 2pm.

They are 3-2 at home in the playoffs.

3-3

Wins:

Game 2 vs. Nashville - Fairly sound 2-0 win

Game 5 vs. Nashville - This was the Kane comeback with 13 seconds left shorthanded game

Game 2 vs. Vancouver - Got absolutely dominated in the first 8-10 minutes, fell behind 2-0, but clawed back to win 4-2

Losses:

Game 1 vs. Nashville - Lost 4-1, but 2 of the goals were ENs

Game 1 vs. Vancouver - Lost 5-1 and got dominated most of the game

Game 5 vs. Vancouver - Lost 4-1 and didn't look as bad as game 1 but didn't look awesome either

Goal differential at home this postseason 14-19 with a 1-2 differential in EN goals.

All of that said, I'm not worried about a 6 game sample size, and no one should be afraid to play playoff games at home, especially if the team only lost 8 games in regulation there all year. If we lose all 3 of our home games this series causing us to lose the series, it was because we weren't good enough to beat the Sharks 4 times in 7 games, not because we didn't have our pregame stuff occur at a hotel.

guys, this isn't really a big deal. teams do this a lot.

madden said he's done this his whole career

Fair enough. I just don't want them starting to believe that they can't win at home.

Nah, I wouldn't worry about it. They're pretty clear that they are using to help bring more focus. Makes sense.

lol you know we've gotten into some pretty goofy territory when we start dissecting the decision of the team to hang out together in one place. OH NO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!

if they lose it's because they took the day off, which is less likely in this scenario i think. i like it.

hahah i love postseason jumbo

bolland is this series' byfuglien, apparently. i love it.

It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyways, but it is shocking that a team leader of any team, especially the Sharks, would easily surrender whatever mental edge they might have. If Bolland is "easy to play against" fine, but that is something you don't say through the media. All Thornton did was prove that Bolland is in his head.

I feel like we haven't played many Hawks games at home lately, and we haven't. Until today, we played at the UC only once in the last 17 days. That's roughly as long a stretch with only 1 home game as the Olympic Break was.

I'm sure Rocky has been itching to get that cash flow revved up again.
