4/11 Cubs (Gorzelanny) @ Reds (Leake) 12:10 CST CSN+

Winning is fun. I have recorded my first game thread win in more than 22 months. The Cubs had a solid start from Z and a good come-from-behind win, capped by Baker's 8th inning tiebreaking HR.

The Cubs send former Pirate Tom Gorzelanny to the mound

Gorzelanny is making his 2010 debut

He opposes Cincinnati hurler Mike Leake.

Leake is making his Major League debut, and is the first pitcher to skip the minors completely since Darren Driefort back in 1994. He was drafted 8th overall in the 2009 draft out of Arizona State.

Let's go Cubs! Let's start our first winning streak of 2010!

And because it worked so well last time, here again is the picture of a gorilla giving the finger.

I'd take a .500 road trip to open the year and I'll also take a soft tossing left against a Dusty managed team. I like our chances tomorrow.

Don't get so confident.... soft-tossing lefties have done terrible things to us in the past few years.

I'm not 100 % confident in a win, individual baseball games are nothing but slightly weighted coin flips. I just think the weighted coin favors us tomorrow.

Greetings one and all from beautiful West Monroe, LA !!!

Quality starts are highly overrated !!! The CUBS now have 4 consecutive quality starts, but they're 2-2 in those 4 games. The last time the CUBS had 4 consecutive quality starts.........

3.97 pitches per plate appearance 3.82 3.88 3.74 3.68 3.61

The top two things everyone already knew. We are hitting home runs but they are almost all solo shots. However, the third stat is very surprising to me. Basically we are being patient and seeing pitches. This is somewhat alarming to me because it means we are being patient at the plate but not hitting still.

CSN+ is apparently the one channel I am incapable of watching a game on. Blah. Oh well, GO CUBS!

Bizarre that in the first week of the season we had 2 games on CSN+, 1 game on WCIU, and only 1 game on WGN.

Why would that be alarming? It should be encouraging because it would suggest that you'll see more hitting if that trend continues.

True. I was meaning more short term. Long term it means we are being patient and we should start hitting better but short term it means we just aren't swinging well (or getting extremely, extremely unlucky).

Bah, I didn't watch today's game but for some reason I assumed it was on CSN.

Is Leake really this much of a phenom that they feel he didn't need any sort of Minor League experience at all?

FWIW he had amazing college numbers, but many don't think he has the kind of stuff to be very good at the big league level. Now that I've said that I imagine he 3 hits us.

We have a team BABIP so far of .212. With a 12 LD%.

What I find alarming is that you think you can use html functions like bold inside a literal code block.
