All right, I'm on board with cutting Bruce loose. Convince Jerrance to to stay and boot Weber. This is getting out of hand.

And when was the last time we saw a player take a nose dive like McCamey? He's gone from being one of the top PG in the country to just flat out bad in the span of a few weeks.

goodbye purdue, don't lose in the first or second round again and i hope a two star prospect from champaign does a great job for you

Are you talking about Jay Simpson? What makes him a two star prospect in your book and why does Rivals have him rated as 4 stars? Also, is Raphael Davis a sub 4 star prospect in your eyes too?

Plus, Purdue has made the last two Sweet Sixteens (lost to champion Duke and Final Four team UCONN). Purdue has won at least a game in the tourney the last four years. Illinois hasn't won a game in the tourney since 2006.

No one argued Purdue isn't a better program right now. They clearly are.

Yeah, but I'm not about to go spouting off. I'm not thrilled about Purdue's chances this year in the tourney. Johnson is almost guaranteed to get his points, but one mediocre shooting game from Moore and they could be upset in the second round. They lean so much on those two. It just kills me to know they could have Scott Martin and Hummel pitching in 10-15 points per game and 5-7 rebounds per game each.

I think Smack thought Sully was saying that it's typical for Purdue to fall out of the tourney early on. I'm not sure if that was the case or if he was just saying they aren't talented enough to get to the sweet 16.

Unless Purdue beats OSU at Makcey, this road win at Illinois is going to be our signature win of the season. I think that clearly puts us at the same level as far as programs. I just don't get the Purdue hate.

Completely agreed. If JJ or E'Twaun have a bad game we could be one and done. I was just objecting to the characterization that its our MO to be one and done.

Yeah, because a guy that claims Purdue is the best program in Big Ten history is what I am. Keep grasping...

Yeah, that's not what I was saying at all.

There is a lot of residual Purdue hate here because of cubbiebum. He left a lasting impression, I think.

Its all about the seniors with PU. I'm not sold on the talent behind them. I think that people hate on Purdue for that reason, they've had a very good run, but its all been on the backs of one class.

I agree. Next year is going to be very important. If the wheels come off, the momentum that's been built over the last four years will be seriously damaged. Hummel being hurt has taken Purdue out of the title hunt this year, but will help Purdue transition to new leaders next year. I guess that's probably the only positive you can draw from his injury.

He definitely gave Purdue fans a shitty image.

I was just reading the thread from earlier in the day. Did someone actually say that Illinois fans, particularly in this thread, are setting their expectations too low for Illini basketball and accepting mediocrity??

Is this opposite day?

Next someone is going to complain that erik is too laid back during game threads.

I was trolling the guys in the thread a bit.

But the fact that Weber and Zook are still gainfully employed leads me to believe that the alumni and fan base aren't holding the decision makers feet sufficiently to the fire. No reason at all to make uninspired trash hires like Zook in the first place and no reason to keep Weber around. From what the Illinois fans say it doesn't even seem like they're on the warm seat. That's [expletive] dumb.

1. Illinois is going through an academic scandal, and half our administration is currently being replaced. With that type of organizational turnover the powers that be have asked Guenther to say around.

2. Guenther has pretty much unbridled power over the Athletic Department. His opinion is the only one that matters. When you are a great fundraiser like he is, and you have the support of Manny Jackson and Jerry Colangelo that's pretty much all that matters.

3. Yes, it pisses me off to no end that Weber's job appears perfectly safe. I like Zook, the program is far better than when he got to Illinois, and I think they have finally have finally surrounded him with people for the program to be successful.

I'm not worried about their guard play. Terone, Anthony Johnson, and a healthy John Hart I suspect will keep their perimeter strong without Moore (although none of those guys will be able to do what Moore does). Hummel will ensure they will be a team capable of making the big dance. Purdue is going to need a big man to make strides next year and fill the void Johnson will leave to some degree. I don't think Lawson is going to be able to jump right into that role. If one of Bade, Marcius, or Carroll can make big strides, I think they'll have the talent to be a second tier team in the Big Ten.

Let's assume that the Purdue students are more obnoxious (or whatever it is you hate about them). Do you have an explanation for why they are soooooooo much worse than every other student section in the nation?

No, I don't.

(And they're not as bad as Duke)

I can't stand when a team plays aggressive defense and hold and grabs a lot, but then the fans bitch when they are called for a foul or when the other team tries to do the same to them. It seems to be a quality shared by PU and Duke fans.
