I read back through the last couple pages trying to figure out what sparked this little diatribe on Weber and still have no idea. I was thinking they lost to Oakland at first, but then saw it was just one of those games where they just flew halfway across the country and are probably in the middle of or about to start finals and were just a little less focused than you might like.

Anyway, firing Weber at this point would be monumentally stupid. He's fine until Jerrance goes elsewhere and then he might have some issues again unless the bridges have been built to the Chicago recruits and he can keep getting guys, but I'm skeptical of that.

Whoever said his version of the motion offense isn't all that great is right. They run way too much of the stand around and throw up a shot at the last minute crap. They're really going to struggle next year without a true PG to bail them out like DMac does all the time.

Yep, it loos decent with an All American point guard. See Williams, Brown, and DMac. It looks really bad otherwise though. See Chester and Jeff Jordan.

You guys act like Illinois is Kansas. With all due respect to the program but it's definitely a step below. As an outsider, I feel like Webber has done a great job. Even considering firing him would be a horrilbe idea.

kansas is kansas because kansas does things that pretty much only kansas does and kansas alumni and kansas fans and the kansas administration don't give a kansas-[expletive] if their kansas-ass program sends ninjas to kill their potential recruits and every single person said recruits know and love and replaces them with pod people or robots or whatever. kansas has gotta be kansas on the basketball court and that's all that matters in kansas and to kansas and [expletive] the rules. [expletive] kansas animals, BE HUMAN BEINGS FOR ONCE IN YOUR [expletive] LIVES!

oh yeah, and [expletive] webber because there is no webber except chris webber who probably made more money playing college basketball than anyone that kansas ever recruited.

Offenses run better with 4 stars than 2 stars.

Yeah, but if you have 4 stars everywhere but PG, the offense will still not flow well. If you have 4 3 stars and a 4 star PG, that offense will look a lot better. And that's the point. There won't be a true PG next year (other than a freshman, and we all know how well/much they play under Weber), so regardless of all the other talent on the roster, I think the offense is going to struggle a bit.

Still with this [expletive]?

Not really, this was more directed to how much I think a true freshman PG will play under Weber, especially one with doubts about how much of a true PG he really is.

What about the rest of what I said that you chose to ignore?

The offense will get worse without McCamey, Davis, and Tisdale around, I don't know what kind of response you were expecting.

I don't know what your basing the 4 star talent with 3 star PG theory on considering we've never had that under Weber. He's had

The only time there's been 4 star+ talent throughout the team there's been a 4 star+ PG. The only times there's been less, there's been a 2 star PG.

And even the Frazier years, the Illini finished 4th in the Big Ten and blew a late lead to Va Tech, finished 10th in the Big Ten (but 40th in Pomeroy ratings overall) and made the conference tourney finals, and finished 2nd in the Big Ten (where a disastrous Frazier injury with 2 games to go killed the postseason). All 3 of those years, Weber was lauded for how well he coached despite inferior talent.

Yeah, and they got there by playing great defense and a frustratingly painful to watch offense.

I was just using a hypothetical, nothing that Illinois has necessarily had. I just really think that unless his version of motion has a very good PG, they'll struggle to score. Honestly, with the athletes they've got now, I'd rather see them play an ACC brand of basketball and run a whole lot more, even with DMac out there.

Iowa State at Iowa tonight, what do you think abuck and ISUCubsFan?

I think we can get some points inside and should be able to beat you on the glass. You guys will shoot it better. Gatens is gonna have to make some shots or we're in trouble. Fran said he was making everything in practice before the UNI game but he's pressing right now.

Out of those years the only one that was decent was two years ago. We were one lucky break of getting the benefit of the doubt as a 12 seed from missing the tourney 3 out of 4 years. At Illinois.

Matt Carlino leaving UCLA:

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2010/12/ucla-basketball-matt-carlino-decides-to-transfer.html

This is the kid that was an IU verbal commit until this past March but then re-opened his commitment and chose UCLA. His dad met with Ben Howland to talk about his lack of PT. What is this, little league baseball?

coaches have got to stop granting an audience to parents concerning playing time.

this is college and this is big money, if your kid isn't good enough, he's not gonna play.

Carlino's helicopter dad can whine but there's no way a no-handle, limited athlete who should be in HS is going to get anytime over Malcolm Lee, Tyler Lamb, Zeke Jones or Jerime Anderson. He was even being outplayed by a walk-on in practice.

That team wasn't lucky to get a 12 seed. They were a better team than the Va. Tech team they played. If you're going to continue to use revisionist history every time you bring up Weber, though, there's no point in continuing this conversation.

That was probably the best Iowa/Iowa State game in a while. Both teams suck but it was a fun game.

you are just flat out poorly coached if christopherson puts up 30 on you. he is awesome and you should probably put 3 guys on him. no one else on isu can beat you.
