the next collective arbitration contract needs to get rid of this stupid service time thing. there's no reason that mid and small market teams should have to keep major-league ready players in the minors for financial reasons.

About a week ago I read a report that he's likely to be called up in June. I also read that he's going to be limited to a total of 150 innings pitched this year between the minors and majors.

It likely will be. Teams weren't really exploiting the rule until recently, so it wasn't really an issue. I cant imagine it has a great chance of sticking around through another CBA negotiation.

What do you mean by recently? The Cubs did this to Kerry Wood in 1998.

I still remember that Angels' manager Terry Collins sarcastically conceded the 1998 World Championship to the Cubs during Spring Training, because the Cubs had just sent Wood down and if they had five starters better than Wood there was no way they could not win.

at Nationals Park Saturday there were probably more Strasburg jersey/shirts in the crowd than any other player, yeah they're pretty excited about him

That's how it was with Heyward at Braves' (Cubs) opening day. Then he hit a 3-run HR in his first major league PA. It was awesome.*

*Not as awesome as Castro's

If they can get some decent pitching out of Wang and 100ish innings out of Strasburg, plus whats the story on Marquis? Maybe the Nationals could stick around for a while because that offense isn't bad'

If the Nationals finish with a better record than us I'll laugh and laugh and laugh and then cry

Also I know their GM's son

sportscenter's been showing highlights of his outing last night. He's just disgusting.

For selfish reasons I'm hoping they keep him down one start longer than expected. His next start (after this weekend) would be in Durham if he's still in the minors, and that's close enough for me to go to the game.
