Could this be Hendry's new MO? First guys who can catch the ball, then speedy leadoff hitters, then more left-handed, and now a stronger bench?

Stronger than what? Millar shouldn't see Wrigley.

Stronger in his mind, anyway.

No chance of him making the team unless there is an injury. Our bench looks to be Nady, Fuld, Baker, Tracy, Hill, and Blanco. Not too shabby. Blanco, Hill, and Fuld are all strong defenders and Nady and Baker can hit enough to handle a starting role when a guy goes down.

6 man bench? On a team with serious questions in the rotation and a strong tendency to use a 12th pitcher at all times, I doubt we see a 6 man bench.

I'm assuming Tracy starts in the minors until or unless they need to replace Aramis early.

I expect Nady and Baker to both be in a platoon with Kosuke and Fontenot.

We certainly are putting a great deal of emphasis on our bench this off-season. Not that Millar is going to make the team, but making our bench would probably be his ceiling.

Well, that's obvious... not like his ceiling is gonna be starting first baseman.

As a fun aside, Millar is a scab. Not a member of the MLBPA.

Sorry to disappoint those who wanted to buy the new MLB game and call him up to the majors.

Video game aliases

Kevin Millar is not a member of the MLBPA (Major League Baseball Players Association), and therefore his name or likeness may not be published in officially-licensed video games. Many games will nevertheless include him and other non-MLBPA players, with fictional names and different appearances. In MVP Baseball 2004, he was not included. In MVP Baseball 2005 and MLB Front Office Manager, Millar is replaced by "Anthony Friese". In Major League Baseball 2K5 and Major League Baseball 2K6, he is replaced by "Carlos Ahearn". In MLB 07: The Show and in MLB 08: The Show he is replaced by "Ivan Jimenez". In Major League Baseball 2K7, Major League Baseball 2K8 and Major League Baseball 2K9, Millar is replaced by "Kyle Morgan", with the same initials. In MLB Power Pros 2008 he is replaced by "Great Johnson". In MLB 09: The Show , on the online roster update, he is replaced by "Dave Herman". In MLB Dugout Heroes, Millar is replaced by "Kane Matthews" with the same initials. In all instances, the statistics of these characters are based on the real Kevin Millar.

Kane Matthews needs to be a real player. You can't suck with a name like Kane.

Great Johnson? Seriously? Why not just name him Big Member?

I forget what game it was, but years ago, there was one for PS1, PS2, or it might have even been Genesis when Barry Bonds was "Wes Mailman'

I don't have a problem with it. He wont make the team out of ST and is likely behind Hoff and Tracy for any time at all. Why not toss one "good clubhouse" guy onto Iowa's bench?

I really dont understand this signing at all. we didnt need an extra corner infielder to begin with, but I was OK with Chad Tracy. If healthy, he can be a great addition.Millar on the other hand is damn near 40, and his best years are well behind him.

Should provide for some interesting antics in ST with him and Dempster, but that's about it. He has less than a .01% chance of making this team unless there are catastrophic injuries, at which point none of us will likely be paying any attention to Cubs baseball if Keven Millar is seeing regular playing time during the season. I could also see this move at providing depth at 1B for us during ST, taking a realistic look at the roster who is going to be playing 1B outside of Lee, Hoffpauir, and maybe Nady or Hill?

Is there a reason that Millar was not in the MLBPA? Is he just super anti-union or something? Didn't want to pay his fees for the bake sale?

He crossed the picket line and became replacement player during the '94 strike.

If he wants to contribute to the Chicago Cubs, maybe he should purchase season tickets and watch the Cubs from the seats.

I hear there's quite a wait for those, and Millar isn't getting any younger.

What's to understand? Veteran players get every chance to prove they still have something left in Spring Training every year. He certainly isn't likely to be picked up by a team in desperate need if he doesn't play any Spring Training games.

There will be tons more signed to minor league deals to help fill out ST rosters, only to be let go when they are no longer needed. Some might even get lucky enough to land a 25th man gig somewhere.

He's not ready to hang up the spikes and the Cubs apparently want someone who can play catch with the outfielders and shag fly balls once the minor league guys get sent back to minor league camp.
