The Cubs have reached a minor league agreement with first baseman Kevin Millar, tweets ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. The deal will be announced later this week. The Cubs signed Chad Tracy last week, so Millar would compete with him for a backup job.

Millar, 38, hit .223/.311/.363 in 283 plate appearances for the Blue Jays last year.

Oh good......we can now look forward to a Dempster.v. Millar prank war.

That I'd actually pay to see.

Paying Kevin Millar to play baseball, though, not so much.

Could this be Hendry's new MO? First guys who can catch the ball, then speedy leadoff hitters, then more left-handed, and now a stronger bench?

The Tracy signing made some sense and I expect him to make the team. Millar, on the other hand, probably doesn't have much of a shot here(or anywhere else) really.

On another note, I think that Micah Hoffpauir's 15 minutes of Cubdom is over.

Stronger than what? Millar shouldn't see Wrigley.

If he wants to contribute to the Chicago Cubs, maybe he should purchase season tickets and watch the Cubs from the seats.

Oh come on, his .674 and .717 OPS's the last 2 years don't do it for you?

Looks like no big deal guys...

The Cubs are bringing veteran Kevin Millar to spring training on a minor-league deal with no guaranteed money, team sources said Monday.

This is unfortunate and unnecessary.

He's cut before they head north. It's just Hendry being a player's GM. He's probably doing somebody a favor.

I think Millar will be a part of the Cubs organization. I think we are going to be the first team to literally hire someone who's job title is "clubhouse chemistry manager". He will be paid to travel with the club, throw shaving cream pies, hold kangaroo courts, and drop water balloons on players.

Much better.

As a fun aside, Millar is a scab. Not a member of the MLBPA.

Sorry to disappoint those who wanted to buy the new MLB game and call him up to the majors.

Video game aliases

Kevin Millar is not a member of the MLBPA (Major League Baseball Players Association), and therefore his name or likeness may not be published in officially-licensed video games. Many games will nevertheless include him and other non-MLBPA players, with fictional names and different appearances. In MVP Baseball 2004, he was not included. In MVP Baseball 2005 and MLB Front Office Manager, Millar is replaced by "Anthony Friese". In Major League Baseball 2K5 and Major League Baseball 2K6, he is replaced by "Carlos Ahearn". In MLB 07: The Show and in MLB 08: The Show he is replaced by "Ivan Jimenez". In Major League Baseball 2K7, Major League Baseball 2K8 and Major League Baseball 2K9, Millar is replaced by "Kyle Morgan", with the same initials. In MLB Power Pros 2008 he is replaced by "Great Johnson". In MLB 09: The Show , on the online roster update, he is replaced by "Dave Herman". In MLB Dugout Heroes, Millar is replaced by "Kane Matthews" with the same initials. In all instances, the statistics of these characters are based on the real Kevin Millar.

Kane Matthews needs to be a real player. You can't suck with a name like Kane.

The first post told us it was a minor league deal. But there's still going to be a bunch of chemistry/practical joker/intangible nonsense discussed as a result.

The first post didn't mention that there was no guaranteed money though.

It's a minor league deal, so that's assumed, no? I would never worry about the money in a minor league signing (except for Samardzija), but rather the annoyance of having that worthless veteran around.

Great Johnson? Seriously? Why not just name him Big Member?
