They resisted budging from a one year offer?

I call shenanigans

I think the "source" got things mixed up a bit. This is probably how it went down and where they are negotiating from now.

Calero's Agent: Hey Jim, how are things? I hear you guys are interested in a veteran MR. Well my guy Calero is the guy for you. He's looking for a 1 year deal in the $2-4 million range.

Jim: (As he takes a break from eating donuts of course) Hey (insert Kiko Calero agent's name here) what the [expletive] kind of low ball offer is that? This is the Chicago [expletive] Cubs! We want to start at 2 years $10 million minimum guaranteed with a Full NTC. Your move Calero...

And that is probably where we stand now as Calero and his agent have been overblown with Hendry's offer.

Thanks for the laugh guys!

That being said, I am surprised by the one year offer. Could Jim actually be improving???

Improving since...November?

Trust me we should all be scared anytime JH is said to be negotiating with a MR. I am willing to bet the deal isn't any less than 2 years $6 million in both years and amount.

Since November?? What are you smoking?? Grabow is like Nathan-lite! An amazing sign and bargain by Hendry Bear.

Assuming we sign Calero, how long until Lou realizes that he's pretty much a Michael-Wuertz-style non-strike-throwing nibbler who walks a lot of guys and loses confidence in him?

Lou is selective when it comes to hating guys who walk too many hitters, he didn't notice it with Grabow or Heilman, so I doubt he'll care about another veteran acquisition.

I'm hoping it's the Ricketts philosophy to not invest in longterm deals for pen help, with this possible news coming out. But, with Grabow getting 2 years, I'm not going to cross my fingers just yet on that......Either way, I'd like Calero on a one year deal, even with our plethora of young pen arms.
