alabama could use a bona fide quarterback THIS year.

Can't disagree with this. But if McElroy can adjust to what defenses are trying to get him to do, he'll be fine. If not, Bama did get one of the country's best pro-style QB in Philip Sims (who says he will enrolled at Bama in January and has said he isn't planning on red-shirting and will be out to win the starter's' job in 2010), not to mention we have another Q that Saban is supposedly very high on in AJ McCarron.

With that said, a healthy Colin Peek would be a big boost for McElroy.

Now only if you get yourself a bonafid QB for next yr... :D .

He might not be ready to start next year, but we do have Tyler Bray (4 stars on Rivals) committed. He's raw but very talented.

I didn't forget him, and I do like the kid's potential. How confident are you with Nick Stephens as your starter next yr?

Also heard that this weekend could be enormous in terms of recruiting for Tennessee. I've heard to watch for two different sets of tandem recruits: Mosely and Dyer out of Arkansas and Lemonier and Calvin Smith from Florida.

It sounds like Michael Dyer will commit to Auburn tomorrow. Suffice to say I am a little surprise about this development. Apparently Malzahn has been on Dyer for awhile now.

Somewhat surprised he went there considering the competition he'll have for several years with McCalebb.

One caller said Pryor was "an amazing football player from the waist down". The guy should be a WR who sometimes lines up in the Wildcat. He should not be the leader of your offense. If you take away his running game (and he's the team's leading rusher, BTW), and force him to throw, he's toast.

Vince Young was that way too his first couple of years in college, but he developed nicely in college. Sometimes it just takes longer.

I happened to be listening to Columbus sports radio yesterday afternoon and the subject of "do you regret the fact that OSU landed Terrelle Pryor" is already coming up (2/3 of the way through his sophomore year).

The regret should be on Pryors part. OSU offense and coaching staff is not catering to Pyrors strengths, i.e. more zone reads, bubble screens, etc. He'd be a much better qb under a better run spread offense program.

I don't think that's the whole problem. He doesn't seem like the smartest football player in the world. Got to have intelligence to play QB, and I don't think he's got enough there.

Vince Young was no brain surgeon. I don't know if you can judge Pryor's football smarts based on his inability to run an offense that doesn't fit his skill set.

As Crompton continues to improve, I feel that much better about Stephens at QB next year. Before the season, I thought we really needed a QB that could step in immediately. And while I'm still very confused that Lane turned away Tajh Boyd, it appears that these coaches (Lane and Chaney particularly) are very good working with QBs.

If they've made this much progress with Crompton in a little under 3/4s of a season, I'm interested to see what they can do with Stephens when they have until next September to get him on the field.

Also heard that this weekend could be enormous in terms of recruiting for Tennessee. I've heard to watch for two different sets of tandem recruits: Mosely and Dyer out of Arkansas and Lemonier and Calvin Smith from Florida. I've also heard that you can take this to the bank: Jeff Luc is a silent, and Tennessee is the team to beat for Matt Elam, Chris Dunkley, and Christian Jones. Also hearing Kelsey Quarles will be a Vol regardless of his current commitment to SoCar.

Personally I don't think Luc leaves Florida BUT if Tennesseecould pull Nu'keese out of the state then it is definately a possiblity. IMO, that would be a serious blow to UM because in the last two years he would have lost Trent Richardson, Orson Charles, Nu'keese, maybe Jeff Luc all to conference rivals and all could have come on and help Florida Post-Tebow. Florida won't be short for talent, but these guys could have made impacts for the Gators in 2010. Charles for Hernandez, Richardson for Tebow (physical running aspect), Nu'Keese for Murphy, and Luc for Spikes. So if you can get Luc, that would equal to Bama getting Alfy Hill from North Carolina. And I mean that as a pleasant surprise pickup. But one other thing....you guys are going to land a Bama decommit (that I personally hated to lose) in Jawuan James.

All good players, no doubt, but the only guy that I know that had an offer at any point from Bama was Dunkley and then I don't how strong that offer was. I mean Bama landed Malone, Carswell, and White, not to mention we also will be landing Keenan Allen after the LSU game. Would we have taken him...yes, but at this point there is no room for him, and if he lands with you guys (which I expect, BTW) you will be getting yourself a heckuva player. Now only if you get yourself a bonafid QB for next yr... :D .

As for Dyer, if you ask the Auburn knuckleheads they will tell you that he is a silent commit to then and has been for months now. Personally Dyer has no intentions of signing with Auburn only because AU OL will get him killed. Which is why I am hoping you guys land him and not Arkansas or Auburn.

Will you listen to me on this one? Luc WILL sign with UT. James is a Dawg, I'm afraid. And I'm telling you... no matter what Dyer says tomorrow, he will be a Vol. Several of UT's current commits will be going elsewhere. Broussard will end up at La Tech, for example.

Kind of hard for him to NOT listen to you when you said it three times. :D

Pryor more closely resembles Vince Young in many ways. Vince never looked fast either but he always ran away from guys, Pryor doesnt look fast but the dude blows people away on the edge and in open field. He's more closer to VY than Troy Smith. Troy Smith kindo of sucked until his last 2 years and the last year he was throwing the ball all over the place with 3 wides. Pryor cant run the same offense as they ran for Troy. Pryor's completion % sucks and a mass amount of his yards are because of bombs.

I didn't say you wouldn't get Luc, I'm just saying if you do get him it would be very good get. As for Dyer, I agree. I'm just going over what I've heard about Dyer. I don't think Dyer goes to Auburn, and quite frankly I think he ends up at Arkansas, to be honest. Play behind Oku and Brown or share time with Wingo? But it's a long way to go for NSD.

I noticed that Duke got three points in this week's USA Today poll. It has to be the first time in years that they've gotten votes other than the traditional 25th place vote Steve Spurrier always used to give them in the preseason poll.

Coach Cut is doing a heluva job there.

Yeah he is. The old joke was that he relied on having a Manning to succeed wherever he went. I guess that isn't the case anymore.

Thaddeus Lewis is no Manning, but he is pretty damn good, too.

It also took two years for Greg Davis to figure out how to use Young. Young may not be real smart, but had great instincts and leadership. I'm not sure Pryor has either one of those.

While I'm not sure how great his instincts or leadership would transfer to a different offense, I'm sure he'd be much better in an offense that fits his skill set.

Getting ready to go visit the parents this weekend, and will be going to Manhattan on Saturday.

Ya'll have a good weekend.

didn't Pryor pick OSU b/c he wanted to run a pro-style offense to improve his chances of success in the NFL?

Yes, he did. Of course, you have to have a quality arm and be able to read defensive backfields to run a pro-style offense though. Two things he can't do.

This might be a really dumb question, but who was the last OSU qb to have a somewhat successful NFL career?
