I'd wager that Wrigleyville/Lakeshore is among the most eclectic stadium neighborhoods in the country.

I'd also wager that most of the hate mail isn't postmarked "Chicago."

ha ha i can see that. I love how Southsideryan took the first opportunity to label cubs fans racist and then add his little ..... oh yeah and the white sox fans can be racist. Give me a break. And how do you know those said players and managers didnt drop the race card? I'll look for the article but Jacque Jones dropped the race card in Minny. Please dont compare Jackie Robinson's situation to Derek Lee's cause you have no idea what you're talking about.

I wouldn't.

Goodness...

Nobody, not even Milton Bradley, meant it as a personal affront to all Cubs fans by calling the few racist Cubs fans out.

Agreed. Wrigleyville and pretty much the entire Lakeview/Lincoln Park area is pretty lilly white and affluent.

Anybody that's shocked about racism in Chicago or anywhere else is being naive. Whenever there is a "majority" race and a "minority" race in a situation, racism will be there. Most racism is covert and not displayed openly, but it's still there. I am white and spent 34 years teaching in the inner-city of Chicago and listened to racist comments made about the minority (whites) by many African-American authority figures (principals, politicians, public figures, etc.) in a public forum. I'm sure that if those same comments were made in a public forum with the situation reversed, there would have been protests and headlines.

Also, I've had many discussions with some of these same people who claim that "Blacks can't be racist".

Adding to what banks said, In my personal experience (which apparently isnt allowed on NSBB) black people tend to be more racist against white people then visa versa. I'm not saying that all or even the majority of blacks are racist, nor am I saying that there arent racist people, and nor am I claiming that this is fact. But i will add my two cents of personal experience and tell you that that is what ive seen.

ehh I dont know about that, just my opinion. I think Black people are more hateful towards white people than racist. Hateful because of what has happened in the past, Black people from what i've seen, dont usually use the word cracker, honkey or any other racist nickname towards white people. From my own experience, I actually feel black people are the less racist out of white, latino, asians, etc.

if you hate someone because of the color of their skin, i'm pretty sure that's racism.

No its not, I think it depends on why they hate the person. If I hate my neighbor and he's white, does that mean i'm racist? It can get confusing but its hard to explain, i think you have to talk from their perspective to understand. In all honesty I still feel White people are the most racist but other races aren't too far behind.

no, it could mean that he's a d-bag. but you were suggesting that black people are hateful toward white people in general, not just because their white neighbor is an a-hole who passes out on their lawn and borrows things without giving them back.

I dont know why but for some reason i get the feeling you have a personal experience in your head right now.

It's amazing that some of the people expressly marginalized as "surplus people" socially, economically and politically over the entire history of this country wouldn't be too fond of the people that that society was designed to benefit and empower the most.

Hey, shut up people from Chicago. I want to hear what the high schooler from the whitest state in the union thinks about racism.

that 0.49% african american population in bennett, colorado really gives him a perspective on race that we just can't understand.

First of all, I never claimed that anything I said was indeed true, I never laid claim to the veracity of anything I said. I merely said it was my personal opinion based on my personal experiences. I did not claim to have a wealth of personal knowledge or experience either.

Second, I live in Bennett and I think that 0.49% is actually higher than what it really is. I seriously know like 6 black people in the whole town. My point is though that I live 30 minutes from Aurora and 40 minutes from Denver, both towns in which there is a large amount of minority races, most notably black and latino. I also lived Puerto Rico for several years where white people simply didnt exist outside of the Coast Guard base. I also was born and lived in Toms River NJ up until the third grade where the % of African Americans is not really low or high (I don't know the actual number).

All I can say is that based on people I Personally know of Personally have heard, African Americans tend to be more racist towards white people that vice versa. AGAIN: I AM NOT CLAIMING THIS TO BE TRUE BUT MERELY A REFLECTION OF MY ADMITTEDLY SHORT LIFE EXPERIENCE.

There are Countless programs supporting African Americans, there is a United Negro College Fund, and the media and the schools tell us everyday how horrible white people were/are. Bottom line, what my great granddaddy did to another black kid's great granddaddy should not have any effect on me or him. I didn't own slaves, nor do I think any white man still living right now ever owned slaves (I could be wrong on that). All the wrongs that were imposed of African Americans (yes there are plenty of them, yes they were terrible) are a thing of the past. Not only that but the government, universities, and private groups pour millions of dollars specifically into helping black people. Let the past be the past and lets move on from mistakes our ancestors made.

I recognize that there are many valid reasons to give aid to African Americans.

White guilt isn't one of them.
