Not that the Indians would have any interest in Bradley, but I wonder if Rothschild could help Carmona. I don't know what's wrong with him, but he's still very young.

Since they've deemed they must trade Bradley, I believe it's unreasonable to expect anyone of value in return. Other teams knowing this and Bradley' history aren't going to offer much in return.

MLBTR has compiled a list of bad contracts whose teams would like to move them. Problem is, theres not a player on the list that would make us a better team with the possible exception of Carlos Lee, who wouldnt be traded to us anyway.

Michael Young?

I know a lot of folks would be pretty scared of the drop off in production from Young once you get him out of Arlington. He has a career 115 OPS+ at home and a 86 OPS+ on the road.

86 OPS+? What was the collective OPS+ of the Cubs 2b in 2009?

The team OPS at 2nd base for the Cubs in 2009 was .666 if that tells you anything.

From Bruce Levines blog

General manager Jim Hendry and his baseball department have been working on trades with Tampa, Toronto and three or four other clubs with players with big contracts that they would like to move.

A Milton Bradley-for-Pat Burrell trade has been on the table for three weeks.

If those are both actual possiblities, and truly the only realistic choices, Burrell would make me smile for no other reason than avoiding having Wells and Sorianos contracts both on the Cubs.

I'm still thinking I'd be happier with Bradley, but Burrell>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Wells.

I suppose we could do worse than Burrell, but between him, Fox, and Hoffpauir, we'll have 3 DHs.

Is the Burrell for Bradley swap just a straight up trade? I forgot what Burrell's contract looked like, but if he is only signed for one year, he may be worth taking a flier on.

Burrell would be a horrible deal because he really sucks in LF let alone RF in Wrigley. I realize any deal is going to be ugly, but Burrell in RF is really ugly. I wonder what other teams are interested. These names (Wells, Burrell, GMJR) are making Rowand look desirable.

There are some pretty interesting rumors being floated, especially by Levine. Sounds like Hendry may be trying to trade Soriano. If Soriano is moved, maybe Burrell makes sense in LF. But I agree, Burrell doesn't seem to have a place on the team as it stands.

Hey now, UZR rates Burrell as a 15.6 fielder in right field in his career.

Ignoring the fact that the rating is from one game, that is.

He can try but no one with any sense will take Soriano without eating a bunch of the contract. So I guess that leaves Brian Sabean.

Don't worry about getting a mlb player for Bradley get a prospect and eat the contract. Make a concerted effort to get Upton or Crawford and use them as the centerpiece of a rebuilding effort after this season.

The advantage to Burrell over the other options is that it is only for 1 year. And if you brought in some other pieces around him (a player to hit most of the right-handers and a defensive replacement on the bench) he just turns into a very expensive platoon OF. And he has value in such a spot.

The Cubs could accomplish that in two ways. Either find somebody in CF and have Fukudome/Burrell in RF or trade for somebody like Luke Scott who could platoon with Burrell, and have somebody like Fuld on the bench who can come into the game late in CF and have Fukudome shift over to RF.

The other names on the list have bigger contracts and their deficiencies are not so easily hidden.

Burrell is still not a good option, but it's much less ugly than any other bad contract.

The only way I could see the Soriano contract getting moved would be for Vernon Wells. I'd much rather hold on to Soriano.

Not that I disagree, but Burrell EASILY has the best contract of any of those choices, if they are actual choices. He has 1/$9 mil left on his deal. The rest have multiple years and way more money left. I understand that money would most likely have to be going to the Rays, but if it wasn't a lot, at least Burrell would be a one year rental, instead of 2,3 or 5 like the rest of those names. And it's not like any of those guys are great defenders. We're not comparing Burrell to Clemente here.

I'd like to think Hendry could get something decent in a deal for Bradley, but all of those guys have something bad about them... bad defense, bad contract or bad offense. Some have more than one of those.

Burrell might be the lesser of evils at this point.
