I don't know much about the Hawkeyes. How many players do they have that would start for Florida or Alabama? I'm guessing it's less than 5 for both units.

definitely none of those white WR's they have and they've got a ton it seems.

2 out of 6? Yeah that's a [expletive] ton.

If this was last year where Florida, Texas and OU were hanging 40-60 on everyone and looking awesome I could see what you guys are saying. But I'm watching Florida and Alabama and Texas and they're not that much different from Iowa. Really good defense, solid offense.

I don't think Iowa is as good as Fla/Bama, but they're not that far below them right now. It would likely be a relatively low scoring game within two scores. And considering Greg McElroy [expletive] sucks and Tebow has been average this year, I wouldn't be scared of getting killed.

The SEC and it's fans might be the most annoying thing in the history of the world.

Nah, I can think of more "annoying" things in the history of the world. And SEC fans can be pretty annoying, I'll give you that, but they are not as annoying as say Vikings fans, fans of playoffs in college football is definately more annoying the SEC fans. These "blackout" games where teams try to do this color on color unis (for instance, Mississippi State uni's against Florida, and Auburn's upcoming "Navy Nightmare") are definity more annoying. I'm proud of the fact that SEC is prolly the toughest conference to play football in, I really am

iowa football has a complete horseshoe up their butt this year. i did pick them today because after last week i just gave up picking against them. i think they'll be the first team in history to go 13-0 with a point differential of like 50 points.

You're right. And I'm not being sarcastic.

Luck tends to even out. They had awful luck last year. Meph, Sagarin, me and other stat models said they were much better than their record. Seriously they had a stretch of games they lost by less than 4 points where there were 10 total fumbles between them and their opponent. Know how many Iowa recovered? 0. 0 out of 10. All in close games. That's extraordinarily unlucky. They went 9-4 and the 4 losses were by a total of 12 points.

This year it completely flip flopped.

Although the breaks didn't go our way tonight. 2 starters were knocked out, we had a sure pick-6 dropped and what looked like a certain fumble recovery at their 18 that squirted out at the last second. I'm also the guy who hates officiating complaints (especially with holding) but there was a horrible missed pass interference on a big play tonight and three takedowns (two by the shoulder pads) by their o-line.

We also were bit by a hook and ladder for 40 yards and a perfect pass by their QB with both feet flat on the ground, a man directly in his face for a 37 yard TD.

This team is starting to look an awful lot like Ohio State in '02. Just don't eff up at home against IU or Northwestern. I'm not even concerned about Minnesota.

I know man. I have no idea how you guys get prepared to face QB's like Stephen Garcia, shitty version of Jevan Snead, Mike Hartline, Tyson Lee, Larry Smith...

I hear fans from everywhere else complain about how boring Big Ten games are. Then when Iowa has a night game I can watch a bunch of SEC games during the day. And I see a bunch of backwards hot garbage on offense.

Then I see Iowa beat Florida in '03, LSU in '04, lose to a much better Florida team by one score on a crazy call in '05 and destroy South Carolina in '08. And every time I wonder why those athletes don't look as amazing as everyone tells me they are and why Iowa isn't so overmatched.

Yeah I really hate when SEC fans say the Big Ten is boring. For one i like defense for two their offenses are no better.

SEC ugly football that's low scoring and defense-oriented= awesome defense with athletes everywhere

Big Ten football in the same mold= terrible offense

Big 12 football that was high scoring= horrible defense

Pac-10= soft

They have it made. Ain't no one can play that ball like dem boys in the souf

At least here in Louisiana the high school football stuff is highly overrated too. I was excited to be covering high school football down here thinking it would be a big thing. The games have a much lower attendance than in Indiana and almost everyone just sits around socializing barely paying attention to the game. People in Indiana don't tend to pay a whole lot of attention either but from my observation they cheer a lot more in Indiana.

This is the first game this year where Jimmy Clausen really hasn't looked good. His numbers were respectable I guess (26/39 for 246, 2 TD, no picks), but not in the vicinity of great. But in the end he'll probably actually move up in Heisman consideration because Tebow is crapping the bed this year. He didn't play very well today though. We basically had one pass play in the playbook this week - quick curl route - and Jimmy threw those on the money but beyond that he made some bad decisions and wasn't his usual self. I'll credit BC some for that, as Jimmy faced more heat today than he has most of the season.

BC played horribly and we should have won by way more. But a win is a win, especially against those damn Eagles - five more probably sends us to Miami or Glendale, which is the best I can hope for out of the season.

Well, he did have a TD dropped by Parris in the corner of the end zone. 2nd straight game with a dropped TD pass by Parris. The only obvious mistake he made was rolling out away from pressure again. There were a couple of times where the step-up was there but he got anxious and faded back and to the left. Of course, on one of those plays, he hit Tate for a big gain on 3rd down. His throw to Rudolph that would have been a TD had he thrown it to the outside shoulder was the one really bad throw I can think of. Otherwise, he did exactly what he had to - took the check downs and dropped it off all the way down the field.

I'm a little annoyed that 1 solid game earned Hughes the #2 job again. He went down easy on every run and though I can't really blame him for the 4th and 1, since he got his bell rung pretty good, I'd like to think that the 235 lb RB is going to win the battle with the CB when he needs 6 inches to score a TD. Especially since Hughes was miffed that he got taken out the last time he failed to punch in a TD.

The next 2 games should be easy and hopefully Clausen doesn't have to play the whole game either time. But that Pitt game is going to be a real tough match-up. Hopefully the defense keeps improving and can figure out how to get someone within 10 feet of the QB fewer than 25 seconds after the snap.

I hope that doesn't mean what I think it means.

?

It was a stupid drunk post mocking a bad southern dialect. I know you're well aware that hillbilly's often sound like they're saying f instead of th. See my other exaggerated bad grammar/spelling in that post.

I'll chalk this up to you not being from down here, but usually when someone spells something like that they are making fun of black dialect.

google "dirty souf" for example

1) Why the hell would I be making fun of black dialect when talking to a bunch of (presumably) white guys with no reference to black people at all?

2) I have relatives in Fayetteville. Spent weeks in Lexington. I heard a hell of a lot of white guys say "f's" instead of "th's". I've heard souf from white guys.

3) The post was clearly a drunken attempt at trying to make fun of southern SEC superiority fans. I just don't understand in what context you would think that was some racial shot.

fair enough hawkeye, it was an overreaction on my part.

However, I really can't recall hearing rednecks say "souf". Maybe it's an Arkansas thing. But normally white southern drawls don't replace f's for th's. A real hick would say "sowwwwth". A drawl elongates vowels.

and only 2 white WR's on Iowa? Maybe amongst your starters but I swear I saw more white boys than that just 2 on the sidelines wearing WR numbers.

incidentally, billy ray cyrus just taught me that "redneck" was coined to describe unionized mine workers, which is weird to find out.

interesting. I always figured it had to do with sharecroppers getting farmers tans.

the miners wore red bandanas around their necks kind of like gang members.

Just so we're straight is "dem" making fun of a) black people b) southern people c) hillbilly's d) people who just don't talk very well? To me it was just like using "eh" or "up dere" if I were making fun of Canadians or Minnesotans.

I see where you're coming from, you're just overthinking things. It was a drunken post at like 2:30 in the morning after a big win and a stupid back and forth with southern white guys. It would be extremely random and out of context to just start making fun of black dialect for no reason.

There are walk-on white WR's but they don't play. #22 and #86 are the only white WR's that play. And our 2nd and 3rd TE's are white.

Funny thing is, both of those white receivers were 4 star recruits coming out of high school.

Alabama's resume is easily better than Florida's. The AP voters did the right thing last week moving Alabama up and the wrong thing this week.

It really is. But I am not disappointed in Bama dropping to #2.
