Because trying to find positives is stupid. Those that do should be eliminated as quickly as possible.

Ultimately it will be looked at that way by history, no matter what your opinion of me is. Don't hate me, hate the fact that I'm right.

We all know that the ultimate goal of any franchise is a World Series championship. Regular seasons tend to be forgotten without one. It's not my personal opinion, it tends to be a societal fact.

Do we remember the 2001 Mariners incredible regular season? Not nearly as much as we should, because they got punked out in the ALCS. The Cubs in the late 20's and early 30's had some pretty damn good teams. Anyone remember those? Nope, because there was no championship. I could keep listing, but I"m sure you get the point.

Some of the most storied teams of all time: the 1927 Yankees, 1976 Reds, 1998 Yankees, (and again, I could continue) are remembered fondly by history because they had great regular seasons AND they won a championship.

Don't let your personal bias against me get in the way of logic.

Does your wife roll her eyes as hard as I do when you go on a diatribe?

Thank your for your insightful input on this topic that enhances discussion in the thread, and therefore NSBB in general.

Seeing as you did not point out anything specifically wrong with my post, I'll assume you agree.

The Cubs are in the middle of a resurgence right now. When all is said and done, these will be looked upon by future generations as the greatest years for the Cubs.

If there's no World Series Championship, I'll just look on it as "same old, same old."

shocked, I tells ya

Do we remember the Cubs teams of the 20s and 30s? Lol. None of us were alive (except Fred), so of course we don't.

We all know you'd rather live in Cubs misery than enjoy the best Cubs teams of our lives. What I'm trying to say is please shut up.

I immediately thought of this play, though it wasn't too terribly significant...

That's one of the more fun games I've ever been to.

Mark Prior 16K game late in 04...think it was the same day the whole Stone thing went down...

Was that the game against the Brewers? I'm almost positive he had something like 16 or 17 K's in a game against the Brewers but ended up with the lost.

Reds. He didn't lose the game but left with it tied at 1 and we lost. Only run was a Sammy homer but it was after the fans had turned on him.

That whole series was the highlight of the 2006 season. The Cubs hung around for a couple more weeks, but it was all downhill from there.

And the only run he gave up was an Austin Kearns home run off the foul pole

I can't remember if it was this game or the game the next day vs. the Reds (I was at both). But I remember the score being 0-0 or 1-0 and Sammy was up with the bases loaded and 2 outs, and he hit a towering fly ball and everyone in the park thought he hit a grand slam, but Kearns jumped up and caught the ball while banging into the ivy. It was like maybe 5 feet from being a granny. Blah.

And there was another game (in the 5 gamer vs. the Cards) when the same thing happened to Ramon Martinez. Sosa would hit a walkoff in the 14th.

That Reds series at the end of '04 is a black mark on the decade. No reason in the world to lose the WC in that fashion.

Darth Vader in pinstripes.

i thought it was "darth vader in baseball spikes"

Hm, it's possible. The Reds away uniforms back then did have pinstripes, I believe, so either is possible.

A few smaller moments:

Reed Johnson's insane catch in Washington in 2008

Neifi's (!!!) grand slam in San Francisco in what I believe was 2006

Hee Sop and Kerry Wood's collision in 2003 with an ambulance being brought onto the field

Julio Zuleta's voodoo in 2001

Todd Hundley flipping off the fans in 2002

Mark Bellhorn hitting home runs from both slides of the plate in one inning in 2004

I could have the players confused, but I beleive back in '04 and '05, Cubs v Cardinals, warnings had alrwady been issued. I believe Scott Rolen had just hit a long home run off Big Z. The next batter was Jim Edmonds. Z nails Edmonds with the 1st pitch, turns around and walks off the field.

I'm pretty sure Bellhorn's thing wasn't in 2004. I'm pretty sure Bellhorn wasn't on the team in 2004. Wasn't that 2002?

You're thinking of this one. 8 IP, 16 K, left with a 3-run lead. Borowski came in to finish it off and gave up a 3-run home run to Geoff Jenkins.

Not one mention of the Ryan Theriot grand slam from this year? Also, who was it that Borowski picked off to end a game against the Yankees in '03?

Charles Gipson, who had come in to pinch run for Posada.
