is this who we think SHOULD win, or who we think WILL win?

whichever you want, I guess

If you're doing it that way, people should make it clear which answer they're giving

I fear Derek Jeter is going to win AL MVP, even though he's only half the baseball player Mauer has been this year. Come on, his OPS is .2 lower than Mauers. He's not even the best player on the Yankees. He's not even the best SS on the Yankees.

I hate the Cards as much as much anybody but I think both Carpenter and Wainwright deserve it over Lincecum.

Carp and Wainwright are both very good pitchers, but Lincecum is just plain dominating almost every time he goes out there. Too bad his run support is close to nonexistent. If he were on the Cardinals, his record would be better than Wainwright's.

I always thought this as well because it is always used in Lincecums defense but he actually has better run support than Carpenter. Lincecum should win though.

Carpenter - 4.3 runs

Lincecum - 4.6 runs

Wainwright - 5.1 runs

As far as NL ROY goes, it's up in the air now alot more than I would have thought a month or two ago.

Happ and Hanson are nearly identical:

Hanson:

21 GS | 11-4 W-L | 2.89 ERA | 144 ERA+ | 1.18 WHIP | 127.2 IP | 116 K | 46 BB

Happ:

22 GS | 10-4 W-L | 2.91 ERA | 147 ERA+ | 1.24 WHIP | 142.1 IP | 101 K | 46 BB

If voters are split between those two guys, there might be enough votes for Chris Coghlan to sneak in somehow.

Coghlan leads the majors in hits (107) and the NL in average (.368) since the All-Star break. For the season, he leads all rookies in average (.318) and OBP (.387).

Coghlan v. McGehee

BA

CC - .317

CM - .301

OBP

CC - .387

CM - .361

SLG

CC - .455

CM - .501

OPS

CC - .842

CM - .862

Home Runs

CC - 9

CM - 16

RBI's

CC - 45

CM - 66

I think the award should go to Happ but McGehee is right up there with Coghlan.

Derek Jeter isn't the most valuable player on his own team, that would be Mark Teixeira.

agreed. i don't like the yankees at all but jeter has been outstanding this season, and if he wins it over mauer, i'll just consider that an evening of the score from when morneau undeservedly beat out jeter in 2006.

i think jeter's career has taken a path where he was really overrated because of the rings, batting average, leadership crap and the announcer ass-kissing of him, and people overlooked his lousy defense. then most people realized that his defense sucked and he had a couple of down years, to the point where now i feel like he's underrated. he's not the best player in the game but he's really damn good and has been for 15 years.

Mauer should've won it in '06.
