lee has been unconscious this month. kinda pointless but at least worth noting.

If Pujols wasn't out of his mind this year, Lee would get a good number of MVP votes. I shudder to think what our record would be without his bat in the lineup.

If you give MVP to best player, then Pujols gets it. If you give it to the player truly most valuable to his team, it still may be Pujols, but Lee would take a good number of those votes.

So how many years like this, or at least close to it do you think Lee has left? I wouldn't be surprised if Hendry tries to extend him 3-4 more years in the offseason. Might have a positive effect on payroll if he backloads it like usual and Lee takes a slight salary decrease for next year (overall salary increase for the life of the deal) maybe we save $3-4 this year and can add a little extra. Just a thought.

I'm not sure. That full year of suckage is still hanging in the back of my mind. He's probably got 2-3 really good years left, and after that I think it's time to go.

Does Colvin's stance not look like a left-handed version of Murton's?

Between the number and the stance, he's basically a LH Murton. All he needs is red hair and a few more pounds on him.

"We still like Murton," Hendry said. "We think Murt's an everyday big-leaguer. He knows we all like him. Life would be a lot easier if Murton were left-handed."

mission accomplished

and yes, he did say that

DLee's up to the second OPS........... .985

And to think, after April we all thought he was washed up. Glad I was wrong. DLee is a great guy and I wish there were more like him.

Now .989 after the double. Amazing. Since there's not much left to cheer for since it seems like the Cubs are locked into second and very likely will finish over .500, the biggest thing I'm rooting for is Lee to get to a 1.000 OPS.

Also, it would be nice if Lee could end the season in the Top 5 of the MVP race. In no way does he deserve to win it, but top 5 sounds right, considering the Cubs offense literally would be hapless without Lee, especially when Ramirez was out

I guess it would be an interesting debate: What would be the bigger loss? Pujols off of the Cardinals or Lee off of the Cubs?

In terms of overall talent, Pujols is obviously far and away the better of the two. But, if Pujols and Lee are taken away, i think St. Louis has the better offense and would suffer the least.

Very quietly, Mike Fontenot has put up a .412/.450/.529/.979 line over his last 40 PAs (not including that PH single he just had), a span of over a month for him. Obviously it's probably too little to late to salvage the season (and likely his Cubs career), but it's nice to see at least.

Good to see that Sammy trade bore some fruit!

why are the cubs playing some of their best baseball all season now?

Now that Milton is gone they're all happy and loving life. =o THEY'RE 3-0!

I can't wait for the knucklehead talk radio callers to start spewing that fact like they had Taco Bell beans for dinner.
