But you are right, [expletive] Bradley and the horse he rode in on, and lets just dump him so hes off this team, to hell if it makes the Cubs worse.

Either way we are screwed.

I'd rather get rid of him and be sucky, then have to deal with this again and still be sucky next year.

The most important issue is to be not sucky next year. Trying to make the Bradley situation work is the best way to do that.

From MLBTR:

According to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat (via Twitter), Cubs players didn't find out about Milton Bradley's apology until his statement was released to the media Wednesday afternoon. That certainly won't help the level of perceived sincerity

He's suspended from the team, how is he supposed to get the apology to his teammates in Milwaukee before the Cubs release it to the media?

doesn't everyone have a cell phone these days? didn't derrek say that instead of calling milton after this incedent he would wait for milton to reach out to him?

and in any case milton could have released the statement to the front office to pass to his teammates BEFORE they released it to the public. and parsing the statement, what exactly is he apologizing for?

Somehow, I'm sure he could have figured out a way with 21st century technology. He certainly didn't apologize to his team mates for his antics while he was still with the team.

So you want him to get on a conference call with the team in the clubhouse or call everybody individually on their mobiles?

This is stupid.

That wont do. He needs to send out cards. And a box of chocolates for each player. And Im not talking that Whitmans crap, Im talking Godiva.

You think we'll be a better team with Micah Hoffpauir/Sam Fuld/Jake Fox in RF?

Ideally, if you can trade him for something decent without being saddled with the contract, sure. But it's really stupid to just dump him and pick up the tab. Bradley's idiocy is not why the team struggled. This was not a chemistry issue. This was a flawed team that had its flaws exposed.

But whats the point of dumping him now? His trade value cant get any lower, so why not give him a chance next year, and if it doesnt work out, dump him mid season. Either we eat 21 million in the winter or eat slightly less in the summer.

Because if you wait for mid-season (if he lasts that long) you are saddled with the same situation you are now with no RF'er.

I just don't see how there's anyway he'll somehow pull it together and be a productive positive force next year.

Until we know what kind of budget Ricketts is going to have for us in 2010(or if he even has control by then) we DO NOT KNOW whether we can field a better team without Milton than with him. With our current budget, does it make sense to trade him and pay his entire contract? Probably not, but then again, we truly have no idea what goes on behind closed doors either. If literally everyone wants him gone, including himself, we may not have much of a choice but to get rid of him. The apology could very well just be a small PR attempt to try and increase what little trade value he may have. In all likelihood, this is going to end badly and we will be worse off for it, but we just won't know for sure until more information is available.

You're going to be saddled either way if you do something stupid and just dump him. And who the F cares if he's going to be a positive force? He's a baseball player, not a community activist. If he's the best man for the job, and with the current assets in place he clearly is, then play the man. If people want him gone, too bad. He didn't make Soriano and Soto suck this year. His attitude is not why they are going to miss the playoffs. His absence is not going to make them better via happiness. They still need baseball players, and as much as a douche as he is, he's still a baseball player. Until they can get a better player, they have to keep him.

way to make sure you have absolutely NO leverage in trade talks involving bradley, hendry.

Hendry had no leverage to begin with.

Right. I still have no idea why we gave him a freaking 3 year deal. Was anybody even offering him anything beyond 1 year?

Yes, I know at least Tampa was offering him a 2 year deal.(I believe with an option?) Texas was interested but I believe dropped out early when it became clear how much he would cost. Not sure there were ever years attached.

Positive productive force. Meaning is he going to take the field to freaking play or douche his way through next year.

Although, I see you point. Might as well keep him and roll the dice. You have nothing to lose and we have nobody to take his place anyway.

Then contact Tampa ASAP.

he could come out and say, "well, i think we'll be able to work through this...bradley has apologized...let's make it a fresh start in 2010."

If he were on the DL now and was again to start 2010 through the 15th of April, his 3rd year option wouldn't vest, making the total outlay of money owed to him to be cut in half or a tad more actually. Which would make trading him at that point a whole hell of a lot easier. I wish we had DL'd him instead of suspending him and I bet Ricketts does too.

Because he would have fought the move to the DL, the MLBPA would have gotten involved and it never would have worked. That would create a hell of a lot more animosity and a "there's no coming back" situation than the current team suspension.
