According to WSCR, the Players Union is considering filing a grievence againt the Cubs in regards to the Bradley suspension.

The question is: what would be the purpose of that? If indeed Bradley refused to play when asked to, such a grievance could backfire easily.

What if he's claiming he didn't want to pinch-hit because he thought he was injured?

Is this whole thing with Bradley worse than the Todd Hundley and Dave Kingman situations? Will Bradley eventually be crowned "most reviled" Cub?

Hundley was flicking off fans after home runs.

It's close.

I was too young to really remember all the behind-the-scenes stuff with Kingman. I knew he wasn't liked, but that's about it.

But Hundley and Kingman were white, so Cub fans obviously hate Uncle Milty more. You know, since we're all racists and what not.

Then un-suspend him and put him on the DL. That would work out better for us in the long run.

It seems that while Bradley was just sucking, he got the same kind of boos that most players do when they suck, Soriano, Gregg, Zambrano, etc, but once he started opening his mouth is when the fans started coming down on him extra hard.

I don't think Bradley will file a grievance, because there's probably been a lot of stuff we don't know about that the Cubs could bring up. He'd likely end up looking even worse.

So how DID Texas get such a bombastic season from him anyway? Can't all be explained with park factors...can it?

I know it's not a great idea but what about Michael Young? He is due $16 mil a year through 2013 ( ) but he's pretty solid and could be our solution at 2B. We could also move him to SS, I think him and Theriot are pretty close defensively at SS, but I could be wrong. He has a limited NTC and has a list of 5 teams he can be traded to, I know he was rumored to be available last year. But with that contract it would tough to trade for him unless the Rangers assume a big chunk or we move Soriano's/Zambrano's contract (which is pretty much impossible or counterproductive).

Ive always like Michael Young, but did not realise that he was on that kind of contract.

Yeah, I have always liked him to. I don't think he is on great standing with the Rangers either. There was the rumors last year they wanted to trade him last year and he also put up a fuss in ST when they wanted to move him to 3B to make room for Andrus. I brought him up primarily because of contract and the only way we get a decent player for Bradley is if they have an excessive contract and Young is one of those guys. He is probably a $9-12 mil. a year guy, not $16.

edit: Just searching MLBTR he apparently requested a trade in Dec./Jan after the Rangers told him they had plans to move him to 3B, now obviously he has lasted the whole season and not much has been said. But you have to wonder if the Rangers/Young will be looking for trades/to get traded this offseason.

He acted like a baby about the move to 3B when their GM told him about it. One meeting with Nolan Ryan and MY was all for the move. True story, look it up.

the way this all played out is bradley's fault. i don't know if he's unbalanced (likely) or what, but whatever, he's acted like a dick and his teammates don't care for him.

But the real villain in all this is Jim Hendry. I keep hearing that we'll have to eat 80-90 percent of this contract to move it. That's 16+ million dollars for a potentially cash-strapped team. There was a risk-assessment in this signing that the Cubs' brass totally failed at. Now we have to eat a lot of dough just to get Bradley off the roster, and the odds seem low that we'll be able to get a RF replacement in the deal, meaning we'll have to promote in-house (we have no one worthy of a spot on our current roster) or sign someone, which we can't do since we'll be paying 16 million dollars for Milton Bradley to play in Oakland, or wherever.

Unless Hendry can figure out a way to get someone in here for RF that isn't a complete disaster, this has to cost him his job. For better or worse, he's somewhat married to this situation and it went as badly as possible. This was such an avoidable situation and he walked into it head first.

oh come on now. don't you know all great gms will take the team with the most wins in either league who had a real bad matchup in the playoffs and got swept, dismantle the key parts, sign unnecessary, useless and volatile parts to expensive contracts and kick back and watch the results?

It's remarkable the Cubs let two once-in-a-lifetime players get away like that. It makes letting Maddux sign with the Braves seem like nothing at all.

Great, his Mom is standing up for him. And, of course, Bradley claims fans were screaming racial slurs at his 3-year old son.

Pretty easy for him to drop the race card in this situation to deflect from the real cause of his problems.

Pressed, Rector wouldn't give details to verify her claims. She only offered that it involved Bradley's 3-year-old son facing racial slurs at about the same time Bradley was complaining about what he considered a racist element of Cubs fans.

Let me be the first to call BS on this one. I don't deny that racism still exists, but I can't possibly imagine a racial slur against a 3-year old kid.

It's secondhand info from his mom. The fact that Bradley never mentioned it makes me question it as well.

Damn. damn, damn, damn. We all knew that there was the possbility that Milton would miss time due to injury. We all knew there was a good chance he wouldnt live up to his Arlington numbers, and we all knew there was a decent chance that Milton would run into some kind of problems, especially if the fans started booing him, but I dont think that theres anyone, including those who were warning Hendry against signing Bradley who would have imagined that things would have gotten quite this ugly.

And the fact that the Cubs are probably still going to pay him during the suspension. It seems to me that they were doing him a favor by suspending him and not placing him on the DL, due to the clause in his contract regarding his option vesting in 2011.

The union wants to make sure he does get paid, which its been rumored they're considering not doing.

Im sure the union also doesnt want a precedent to get set either.

I doubt the type of people yelling out racial slurs are going to know what Bradley's [expletive] kid looks like. Where did he have his kid sitting anyways? The bleachers?

As long as his kid was in the stadium, there is a 100% chance that he was racially taunted. In fact, I've heard that the Cubs have licensed their logo to a KKK hood making company and they expect it to be a best seller.

i like how people are so adamant that there's no racism going on among the 40,000 mostly white and drunk fans.
